WANT TO BE A SUCCESSFUL DAD? THE MAYOR OF BANDUNG CITY GIVES THE LEAK
The Mayor of Bandung, Oded M. Danial conveyed four important messages to those who have become fathers and husbands, in order to foster a prosperous and harmonious family. First, a father is a leader in the family. This means that he must have a moral responsibility towards his family members.
"That is how he provides education and becomes a role model for his family," said Oded at the peak event for the 2021 Bandung City Father's Day Commemoration, at the Bandung City Hall, Monday 29 November 2021.
Second, explained Oded, because he has a role as a husband to his wife, he must always be present to protect his wife. So that a husband should not hurt, let alone cause domestic violence.
"Never mind violence, debating is not allowed, it must be avoided. Here there needs to be mutual understanding of each other, if one is angry, the other relents," he said.
So, at the moment of Father's Day which falls every November 12, Oded again reminds that every husband really protects, respects, and loves his wife and children.
"Don't let the wife's mistake be a little, so she forgets her services for days. But of course the wife must also respect her husband," he added.
Third, apart from acting as a husband, of course he also acts as a father to his children. According to Oded, fathers must be role models or examples for their children.
"Because the most effective education is the movements of the father's behavior, what is clear is that the father is a teacher in the household," he said.
Finally, the father must be able to be a friend to his children. According to Oded, a father must be present and play a role in the upbringing of children.
"If our children are still small, then invite them to play, when they are older, make them a friend for discussion," he said.
"God willing, if all of this is present in our household, it will bring a strong and prosperous household. Let's start building the city of Bandung starting from the family," he added.
Meanwhile, the Chair of the Bandung City Family Learning Center (Puspaga), Siti Muntamah hopes that, with the commemoration of Father's Day, they can again strengthen the role of fathers, especially in child care.
"The problems in society that we face because after we investigate, it turns out that the role of the father is not strong enough," he said.
Therefore Puspaga Bandung is here to reaffirm the role of fathers in providing positive care for children.
"Fathers are not only protectors but are a factor in the success of parenting in the family, especially providing positive parenting," he said.
Siti said, Puspaga has two divisions that focus on improving the quality of families. Namely the prevention division and the referral division.
"The target division is to provide counseling services. But so that counseling does not occur, the prevention division is given education, one of which is through the father's school," he explained.
"We provide parenting to families to strengthen the role of how families provide positive care for children," he added.
