The addition of Covid-19 cases in the city of Bandung is increasing with the omicron variant. From the latest data on the covid19.bandung.go.id website, as of Tuesday, February 8, 2022, the total number of people who have been confirmed to be actively positive for Covid-19 has touched 2,420 people.

However, the good news is that as many as 91 percent of the Covid-19 survivors have gradually recovered. And no additional cases of death occurred.

Even so, the Acting Mayor (Plt) of the Mayor of Bandung, Yana Mulyana, on various occasions has often said to remain calm and continue to be disciplined in health protocols (prokes).

"This omicron variant does not have as severe symptoms as delta. Be alert, but don't panic. Keep calm, just keep the process. Wear a mask, keep your distance, wash your hands diligently, and use hand sanitizer," said Yana.

In the face of this third wave of pandemics, the Bandung City Government (Pemkot) has also prepared health facilities and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for health care at several public locations, such as terminals, airports, stations, and markets.

The health facilities prepared include the number of bed occupancy rates (BOR) or the occupancy of beds in hospitals, availability of oxygen, and vaccines.

"If we see enough. And Alhamdulillah, some hospitals already have tanks so they have stock for a few days," he said.

The Bandung City Government has also tightened regulations with the promotion of Level 3 Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) and even-odd vehicles entering the Bandung City area.

“This policy, since yesterday, has been reviewed by the Transportation Department and the Bandung Police. This odd or even number is part of our effort to reduce people entering the city of Bandung," said Yana.

In fact, the Bandung City Government also takes firm action against anyone who violates PPKM regulations. One of the latest cases is the temporary closure of the Festival Citylink Mall on Jalan Peta for 3 days, 4-6 February 2022.

This action was taken because the mall violated health protocols when holding a Barongsai War show a few days ago.

"This has violated PPKM Level 2 set by the Bandung City Government. Because at that time there was a crowd. This is a serious violation," said Yana.

Reflecting on the experience of handling pandemics in 2020 and 2021, Yana is optimistic that the City of Bandung can overcome the recent increase in Covid-19 cases.

"We are also intensifying vaccinations, both in doses 1, 2, and 3. As our effort to establish herd immunity in the city of Bandung. So that later this Covid-19 will only become endemic," Yana added.

"Endemic is a condition when disease outbreaks occur consistently but are limited to certain areas so that the spread and rate of disease can be predicted. Endemic diseases are flu, malaria, dengue fever," he said. (din)**
