Let's Prevent Floods with Simple Infiltration Wells

When entering the rainy season, several areas in the city of Bandung are often flooded or inundated with water. When entering the rainy season, several areas in the city of Bandung are often flooded or inundated with water. Of the 68, the remaining 10 points are categorized as flood and 24 points are inundated.

To prevent this from happening, the Head of the Bandung City Water Resources and Highways Service (DSDABM), Didi Ruswandi ensured that his party routinely dredged the culverts.

In fact, this year the first access will be made so that heavy equipment can enter under Cikapundung Kolot for dredging.

"Two months before the rain, we have routinely dredged. Some of the spots that often flood are Kopo Citarip, Cibaduyut, and Gedebage," explained Didi after Bandung answered on Wednesday, June 22, 2022.

In addition, other steps taken to prevent flooding are retention ponds and infiltration wells. This year, the Bandung City Government (Pemkot) will build a retention pond in Tegalluar in collaboration with Bandung Regency.

"There are already 12 retention ponds. This has exceeded the target of the Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD). The target is one per year, but we adjust it according to the needs and the land that can be utilized," he said.

Apart from the efforts of the Bandung City Government, Didi appealed to the public to make simple infiltration wells in their respective homes. This small step is a solution to prevent flooding.

To make this infiltration well, it is enough on a small land using a used can or gallon drum, you can also use bricks.

"Currently there are 4,500 infiltration wells in the city of Bandung out of a potential 500,000 that should exist. We are trying to finish the rain in our own yard, don't let it enter other people's yards," he urged.

The Bandung City Government through the DSDABM has also provided seven pump houses to prevent flooding. This year, three more units will be added.

"There are in Merkuri, Adipura, and Rancabolang areas. Most of them are effective, but there are some that are not effective. In Rancabolang, if the Cidurian water flow increases, the pump results will return again," he explained.

Didi admitted, if the flood control has several obstacles, especially in the aspect of community behavior in managing waste. Not to mention the addition of reduced land grabbing of river bodies.

"This year we will try to treat 'greywater', household waste from washing and bathing. We process this so that the water becomes clear before being dumped into the river," he explained.

Another future effort that will be carried out by the Bandung City DSDABM is to build urban forests at several points, one of which is the closest one in Cikapundung Kolot.

"By planting trees and building urban forests, we can increase water absorption," he added. (din)**
