The Bandung City Library and Archives Service (Dispusip) continues to increase literacy interest. One of them is through the Read Cart Program in a number of selected Kelurahan.

The Reading Cart is a medium provided by the Bandung City Dispursip to provide reading books. Inside the quirky red, black, and yellow wagon, there are approximately 50 books.

Every 3 months, the existing books will be rotated to another village.

Secretary of the Bandung City Dispusip, Medi Mahendra, explained that the Read Cart is here to invite residents, especially children, to love books. Especially for residents who are far from the library in the center of Bandung.

"The books were obtained from the collections of the Library and Archives Service as well as grants from the community. Although it has not been reached to all urban villages, we are trying to work together with the Literacy Mother in each region who has a concern in the field of literacy or interest in reading," said Medi to Bandung City Public Relations, Thursday 30 June 2022.

Through the Reading Cart, residents can get access to simple libraries that are placed in a number of strategic spots.

"We place this reading cart in Buruan Sae, in alleys far from the city center, as well as other strategic places. Thank God this is quite effective in increasing people's interest in reading," he said.

“Now people can no longer say books are expensive and difficult to access. We are here to invite readers to bring knowledge to them,” he added.

Not Only Reading Carts, Dispusip City of Bandung has initiated a number of programs, including the Regional Entrepreneurship Literacy Click or Kiosk.

Klik also aims to increase literacy and business interest, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. This program is in collaboration with the Department of Cooperatives and KUKM.

"The survey results have proven that the literacy index of Bandung residents is the highest compared to other City Regencies. This is a very good condition, we must improve and maintain it," said Medi. (sya)**
