The city of Bandung is known to have many heritage buildings. This is very reasonable because in 1920-1940, Bandung became the laboratory of Dutch architects.

Villa Isola Bandung

In those years, many Dutch architects explored their abilities in this city.

One of them is the Isola Building which is located on Jalan Setiabudi.

Quoted from the book "From Villa Isola To Bumi Siliwangi" Lulus Abadi and Sudarsono Katam, the design of this villa was initiated by D.W. Beretty, and using the architect C.P. Wolf Schoemaker.

The design of Villa Isola was made by Wolff Schoemaker in 1932. On March 12, 1933, it was the groundbreaking for the construction of Villa Isola in Tjidadap Village.

The construction of this villa was relatively short, thanks to the good cooperation between the architect bureau, contractors, architects, engineering supervisors, and the mando as well as 700 construction workers.

Villa Isola began construction in October 1932 and was completed in March 1933.

However, this villa was only inaugurated when 8 months later, namely on December 17, 1933.

Villa Isola had changed hands to the owner of the hotel at that time, namely Rr. J. Van Es, and when the Japanese troops landed on the island of Java.

Previously, Villa Isola was used as the residence and office of the commander of the Dutch East Indies army division that controlled the city of Bandung.

Then, during the Japanese occupation, Villa Isola was occupied and used as an army headquarters and a place to store war equipment for the Dutch army which was confiscated by the Japanese.

In addition, right in the vicinity of Villa Isola there is a monument to the opening of a teacher education college which was inaugurated by J.M Prime Minister of the Republic of Indonesia Mr. Ali Sastroamidjojo on October 20, 1954

Currently, the condition of Villa Isola is still well maintained. The Villa Isola building is now the secretariat of the Indonesian Education University, one of which is the Rectorate Office. (haal)**
