1,500 Taekwondoin Heats Bandung Mayor Cup 2022

A total of 1,500 taekwondoin participated in the 2022 Bandung Mayor's Cup open championship at Gor Bandung, Jalan Jakarta Bandung City. Not only from the city of Bandung, the participants also came from outside West Java.

"Alhamdulillah, the interest of the participants has increased. There are 1,500 participants, 100 training units, some participants from outside the city of Bandung. From outside West Java there are also those who enliven," said Head of the Bandung City Taekwondo Branch Management, Dedi Heryadi, Saturday, August 20, 2022.

Dedi said that the Bandung Mayor's Cup was a test event for a number of athletes who would appear at the West Java Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) in November.

"This championship lasts for 4 days and has been going on since last Thursday. It was deliberately held for a long time to avoid crowds. Every day, around 350 participants participated," he said.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Bandung, Yana Mulyana, is optimistic that Bandung will become a barometer of taekwondo in Indonesia. Especially if the athletes receive good coaching and discipline.

"Hopefully we can give birth to the best athletes so that the city of Bandung becomes a barometer of taekwondo. This must continue to be improved," said Yana, who is also a taekwondoin.

According to him, activities like this can improve the ability of taekwondoin.

"Of course it must be improved so that the seeds of athletes can participate in local, regional, national and even international level events," he said.

Even though it was still during the Covid-19 pandemic, Yana ensured that the championship would still adhere to health protocols.

"After 2 years of the pandemic, the city of Bandung is sloping so that various activities, including sports, can be carried out. This is thanks to our efforts, including vaccinations," said Yana. (yes)**
