The Disaster Preparedness Village was formed to build the mentality of the community and improve coordination so that they are always ready and strong to face various threats of natural disasters that can occur at any time in their area.

"This is for our preparedness for disasters, disaster response. Because BMKG has also reminded us that in the future this climate will be quite extreme," said Mayor of Bandung, Yana Mulyana during a Disaster Management Coordination Meeting in Bandung City, Monday 10 October 2022.

Yana revealed that the disaster vulnerability in the city of Bandung is quite high considering the rainfall is starting to high and the geographical location of the city of Bandung which is in a basin. Not only that, the city of Bandung is also surrounded by mountains and is under the Lembang fault or fault.

Therefore, he continued, the city of Bandung has a fairly high risk of a disaster. Such as floods, hurricanes, landslides, fires to earthquakes.

"With this coordination meeting, it is hoped that if there is a disaster in one area, all of them already know what to bring, each has clear duties and functions in responding to disasters," he said.

"If there is a flood disaster, the Social Service Office prepares rice, food, for example Public Works to clean up the sediment, each of them already understands what to do in each disaster," he added.

Gradually, every sub-district in Bandung City is expected to have a Disaster Response Village for disaster mitigation.

He targets the establishment of this Disaster Alert Village to be carried out as soon as possible.

"The sooner the target is the better. Hopefully from this coordination meeting there is a common understanding and intention, residents, municipal government, stakeholders, can make a role model first. Sub-districts can be made at the first level because there are quite a lot of human resources, the potential for consolidation of disaster stakeholders is better prepared, " he said.

He hoped that there would be enough points in the village for disaster alert so that if a disaster occurred in one area, the response would be faster.

"Not only from the city government but residents also understand more about how to deal with disasters, especially after the disaster," he said.

He said the Bandung City Government had prepared a budget for disaster management in the city of Bandung.

"Of course we will prepare a budget, it will be spread out in every department. What is certain is that this government cannot solve problems on its own, it needs community participation," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Bandung City Social Service (Dinsos), Soni Bakhtiyar, admitted that he would play an active role in disaster management, especially regarding the fulfillment of clothing and shelter.

"We social services have an active role in responding to disasters in the region, we are ready to wear and shelter when a disaster occurs in the city of Bandung," he said.

He said the mapping of potential disasters in the city of Bandung is very important, for that, the declaration of disaster preparedness villages must be implemented immediately.

"In the future, we hope that a disaster preparedness village will be formed. We will map out areas that frequently occur in the city of Bandung. If we have data, we will be better prepared to face disasters," he said.

He revealed that his party is currently making an inventory of potential disasters in every area in the city of Bandung.

"If Disaster Preparedness Villages will be formed at several points, we will distribute formats to fill in the potential for disasters in each region. We will take an inventory, then we will do the mapping," he said.

On the other hand, the Secretary of the Bandung City Fire and Disaster Management Agency, Iwan Rusmawan, said that the flood points to be wary of were the eastern Bandung area.

While the fire points are in densely populated areas, for landslides they are in the North Bandung area.

For this reason, his party has prepared personnel to be ready in case of a disaster.

"Our function is to coordinate, our task is when there is a disaster. Every day we prepare 40 firefighters and rescue personnel at the main headquarters," he said. (rob)**
