Earthquake Hits Cianjur, Mayor of Bandung Also Concerned

Cianjur brings sad news. A total of 162 people died, 326 seriously/lightly injured due to falling buildings and 2345 were seriously damaged when a 5.6 magnitude earthquake rocked the region on Monday, November 21, 2022 at 13:21 WIB.

Mayor of Bandung, Yana Mulyana expressed his deep sorrow for the disaster that befell Cianjur Regency.

"We, the City Government (Pemkot) of Bandung, offer our deepest condolences for the earthquake that occurred in Cianjur Regency. I had read earlier that many of the victims were children," Yana said.

He hoped that aftershocks would not happen again. However, he advised the public to remain vigilant and avoid the location of tall buildings.

"We always pray that there will be no aftershocks. However, we must remain vigilant. Keep yourself safe. Avoid tall buildings. Stay calm and continue to communicate with related parties if you need help," he said.

Regarding other assistance, he said it would be discussed with the People's Welfare and Community Section.

"We will try to collect aid through the Social Service," he said.

The earthquake was centered 10 km southwest of Cianjur Regency, West Java, with an earthquake depth of 10 km.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said the earthquake did not have the potential for a tsunami.

Apart from Jakarta, the earthquake was also felt in Sukabumi, Bogor, Bandung and Depok. (din)**
