To prevent bird flu, DKPP has vaccinated poultry at 60 points

Even though there are still zero cases, the Bandung City Government (Pemkot) is trying to anticipate the entry of bird flu or Avian Influenza (AI) into the city of Bandung.

One of them, the Bandung City Food and Agriculture Security Service (DKPP) has carried out poultry vaccinations at 60 points.

Head of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Division of DKPP Bandung City, Wilsandi Saefuloh stated, he has carried out routine vaccinations to prevent transmission of the bird flu virus.

"Until now we have vaccinated at 60 points or 500 chickens and other large poultry have been vaccinated," he said.

Wilsandi said that there are no big breeders in Bandung. Most are just maintenance.

"There are no big breeders in the city of Bandung, so we are trying to search for keepers. We hope that people who have a lot of poultry can immediately report to DKPP to get vaccination facilitation," explained Wilsandi.

He said that poultry owners who are members of the Buruan Sae program will also become vaccination targets. Currently, there are still 4,000 doses of vaccine available for poultry.

Related to the symptoms experienced by poultry when exposed to bird flu, Wilsandi explained, poultry appetite will decrease and physical condition will decrease drastically.

"Initially, decreased appetite, red comb, discharge from the nose. If it gets longer, the neck will twist," he said.

To prevent it is to diligently maintain cleanliness. Plus the use of disinfectants as well as giving vitamins.

"To avoid the virus, you have to maintain the sanitation of the cleanliness of the cage, enough light, keep it dry. Using disinfectants around the cage, the main thing is vaccination, as well as giving vitamins to keep the poultry's resistance maintained," explained Wilsandi.

For prevention to humans, namely with a Clean and Healthy Lifestyle (PHBS). If there is a continuous flu attack, immediately go to the nearest health facility.

Previously, the Bandung City Government had also issued a circular letter from the Bandung City Secretary number 03-DKPP/2023 concerning vigilance against AI or Avian Influenza.(yan)**
