Responding to this, the Acting Mayor of Bandung, Ema Sumarna, admitted that she had mobilized assistance from the Fire and Disaster Management Service (Diskar PB) to speed up the blackout process at the Sarimukti TPA.

"We are anticipating this so that something called a garbage emergency does not happen again.

As of this morning, the embers are still there. We have mobilized all the capabilities of Diskar PB together with the regions that do use Sarimukti for waste disposal," explained Ema, Wednesday 23 August 2023 when met at the West Java Sport Center.

He added, apart from sending reinforcements for firefighters, his party also continued to promote Waste Free Areas (KBS) in all RWs throughout the city of Bandung.

"The sub-district head and the lurah hope to educate the public so they are wise not to produce excess waste. Then this KBS must be optimized, meaning that waste must be finished in the area," he said.

This is because the Bandung City Government (Pemkot) routinely socializes the Kang Pisman program to the public. He hopes that the Sarimukti landfill incident can make people more sensitive to environmental issues and waste management.

"I saw yesterday from 154 KBS now it has increased to 230, which means there is progress even though our target has to be the entire RW. We are continuing to push for this to accelerate KBS so that the community is really able to handle waste in the area," he added.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Bandung City Environment and Sanitation Service (DLHK), Dudy Prayudi said, the condition of the Sarimukti TPA would greatly impact waste transportation and cleanliness throughout the region Bandung.

"A fleet of 188 garbage trucks have queued at Sarimukti. However, to maintain the safety of the drivers, instructed to return to the city of Bandung with the condition of bringing back the trash," said Dudy.

For this reason, Bandung City DLHK through the UPT Waste Management has prepared steps to anticipate and handle potential waste emergencies in Bandung City.

One of them immediately issued a circular letter so that each RW to its residents, especially three-wheeled officers, to collect garbage from the house and not throw it into the TPS until an unspecified time limit. "Each Regional Coordinator prepares a TPS as a Large TPA in each SWK," he said.

Apart from that, the Bandung City Government will also provide assistance and encourage territoriality to start implementing KBS, including in managed/commercial areas and government offices so that they are independent in processing waste. (din)**
