To optimize waste management in the region, each sub-district and sub-district continues to innovate to minimize the production of discarded waste. This is no exception in Cigending Village, Ujungberung District.

Cigending Village Head, Henni Revianti said, currently around 50 percent of the 7,200 heads of families in the Cigending area have sorted and processed their waste independently using various methods ranging from Kang Empos to maggot.

"Thank God, we continue to carry out education from the RT level to social gathering groups. Almost 50 percent of our residents have sorted and processed waste independently," said Henni.

Henni admitted that it is not easy to change society's paradigm to be able to sort and process their waste independently.

However, with various efforts, little by little the community has begun to be able to process its own waste. Especially after the assistance from the Bandung City government through maggotization.

He said that currently the maggot hangar in his area had incorrectly processed more than 4 tons of organic waste.

"We remain enthusiastic, because maggotization in a month we can process more than 4 tons of waste," he said.

To continue to intensify education and processing, the sub-district also collaborates with the Independent Community Self-Help Group in RW 09, Cigending Subdistrict.

Chairman of the Independent Community Self-Help Group RW 09, Hermawan, said that since 2018 he has formed a waste bank to overcome the problem of inorganic waste.

"This waste bank group is a solution for processing inorganic waste. Thank God, it has been running since 2018 in RW 09, Cigending Village," he said.

Meanwhile, since 2020, organic waste processing has been using the open windrow method.

Windrow is a composting system in an open area with a roof with natural aeration.

Every Wednesday and Sunday, the community stores their organic waste in the buckets provided. Then the organic waste is processed into compost using the open windrow method.

Currently, said Hermawan, organic waste processing methods have increased with the maggot hangar being built.

He hopes that with these various efforts he can solve the waste problem in Bandung City, especially in Cigending Village.

"Now we are optimizing it with composting and maggotization. Hopefully we can continue to be consistent and can solve the waste problem, especially in the Cigending sub-district," he said. (rob)**
