This was revealed when Acting Mayor of Bandung Bambang Tirtoyuliono received a collaborative visit from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) at Bandung City Hall, Wednesday 17 April 2024.

ITB Environmental Activist, Indria Diah Pratiwi said, there are a number of solutions for handling waste in the city of Bandung.

"The approach we are trying to take is not just picking up trash and bringing it to one location, but focusing on education," explained Indria.

According to Indria, the party responsible for handling waste is the source of the waste.

"We, the School of Life Sciences and Technology (SITH) ITB, have several partners in handling commercial waste in the city of Bandung. "One of them is a 5-star hotel. We educate by explaining that in processing this waste, the source is still responsible," he explained.

Another ITB environmental activist, Ramadhani Eka Putra, conveyed a solution for handling waste in the city of Bandung by providing education from early childhood education (PAUD).

"One of the solutions for handling waste that we (SITH) have implemented is by providing education to PAUD, elementary schools and subsequent levels," explained Rama.

According to him, educating from an early age will be more effective because they do not yet have high ego awareness so they can be easily educated.

“In the future, we will work on environmental scouting from PAUD. A kind of Scouting," he explained.

At that meeting, ITB also asked to create a waste management pilot project in one of the markets in Bandung City.

Responding to this, the Acting Mayor of Bandung, Bambang Tirtoyuliono gave the green light to SITH to manage compost waste in one of the markets as a pilot project.

“Okay, I will allow the piloting of the compost waste management project. "The possibility is between Gedebage Market or Caringin Market," he explained.

Bambang hopes that ITB can find a solution because the Bandung City Government also has limitations.

"This waste problem will not be solved if it only comes from the Government, because it requires the role of various stakeholders," he concluded (ziz)**
