Yana: Media is Government Partner in Policy Making

Plt. The Mayor of Bandung, Yana Mulyana, appreciated the presence of the media, especially in the city of Bandung. According to him, the media is a partner of the Bandung City Government in formulating policies.

This also coincides with the spirit of National Press Day. Yana hopes that, in the midst of accelerating the news media with the presence of social and mainstream media, the existence of print media must be maintained because it acts as a balancer.

"Without the help of the media, our program will not be disseminated to the public. We really need the presence of the media to convey various programs," he said in an exclusive interview with the West Java Tribune at City Hall, Thursday 10 February 2022.

Technically, Yana explained, the presence of social media and online media acts as a fast disseminator of information. While the print media acts as a counterweight.

“Social media has the speed of delivering news so that it can be read and accepted by the public. While the mainstream media can't be that fast, so there is still time and opportunity to filter the news, so that the news has been filtered out (avoiding potential hoaxes)," he explained.

Furthermore, Yana explained, the City Government (Pemkot) cannot build this city alone. Therefore, collaboration with the community and also media people is very necessary because the media carries out the function of social control.

Yana also admitted that she used the news in the media as a reference in formulating policies.

“Like, for example, policies in the midst of a pandemic. We continue to monitor the news from the media," he said.

In the future, he hopes that the media can continue to be a partner of the Bandung City Government, especially in conveying information related to the program.
