Since 07.00 WIB, dozens of boys have filled the waiting room at the Bandung Kiwari Hospital, Wednesday, March 23, 2022. Together with their parents, they are waiting for their turn to be circumcised for free. The free mass circumcision program was carried out simultaneously in five hospitals (RS) in the city of Bandung by the Bandung National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas).

One of the participants is Raihan Lukman. This six year old boy came with his father and mother. He ran here and there, playing with his peers.

"Since yesterday we have been counting the days. 'What day is it now? How many more days, Ma?', I see. Indeed, his own child wants to be circumcised," said Imas Rosita, Raihan's mother.

Imas is grateful for this free mass circumcision. Because, in the midst of a pandemic, he doesn't need to spend outside his monthly needs.

Imas continued the story. Raihan is the third of four children. Her two sisters were circumcised several years ago.

"His brother likes to scare him, he says he will use big scissors later. But fortunately, Raihan is okay. He is still brave and wants to be circumcised. Because his friends have also been circumcised. So excited," said Imas.

Usually after being circumcised, children often ask for gifts. When asked what gift he wanted, Raihan happily answered, "Want a remote car".

Responding to this activity, the Head of the Bandung Baznas Ramadhan Tali Asih Program Committee, Ahmad Husen explained, the distribution of circumcision in five hospitals is to make it easier for participants to visit the circumcision location.

"The five hospitals that are hosting the free mass circumcision include the Salamun Doctor Hospital, Bandung Kiwari Hospital, Al Islam Hospital, Ujungberung Hospital, and Muhammadiyah Hospital," said Ahmad.

In total, Ahmad added, there were around 211 children who participated in this free mass circumcision. At Al Islam Hospital, there were 46 participants. Then, Salamun Hospital with 34 participants, Muhammadiyah Hospital (36 participants), Ujungberung Hospital (30 participants).

"Meanwhile, at the Bandung Kiwari Hospital, there were 58 children who participated in the circumcision. We also provided additional seats for seven children who registered suddenly at the location," he explained.

Ahmad said the laser method was the circumcision method used in this activity. Because, the laser method is considered superior to ordinary circumcision.

"This method has a similar effectiveness to electrosurgery techniques. The results are also usually neater and wounds can heal faster. And not many medical services in Indonesia provide this facility," he added.

On the other hand, Deputy Chairperson of Bandung City Baznas IV, Arif Ramdani said, the purpose of this mass circumcision activity was to help the people of Bandung City who are Muslim to circumcise their sons in accordance with health guidelines and Islamic law.

"It's easy. We gave them the form through the head of the lurah. Then include your KK and KTP. Children also need to be swabbed first. If it's positive, it means that you haven't been able to take part in this circumcision," said Arif.

As the selected hospital partner, Deputy Director of Services at the Bandung Kiwari Hospital, dr. Nuning Nurvita Rahayu hopes that this mass activity will be an effort to manifest obedience in carrying out God's commands.

"This circumcision order has been handed down since the time of Prophet Ibrahim and continues to be carried out by his descendants until the Prophet Muhammad saw. Circumcision is an obligatory worship to support other worship," said Nuning.

Nuning added that this circumcision can help children to complete their worship after puberty.

"We hope that all of our intentions to bring our beloved children to carry out circumcision, can be a complement to their worship when they reach puberty later," said Nuning. (din)*
