The Bandung City Government continued the revitalization process of Teras Cihampelas this year. During a survey on Friday, 1 April 2022, the Regional Secretary of Bandung City, Ema Sumarna, stated that, looking at the current condition, the process could be carried out immediately.

“As to the target, well, we want it to be as quick as possible. We also have coordinated with respective Regional Task Forces or Satuan kerja Perangkat Daerah (SKPD). The facilities and infrastructures suffice. The only thing left is how to reactivate it in order to make PKL consistent in their business here,” Ema said.

In addition to 12 pedestrian overpasses, Teras Cihampelas also provides a lift for its visitors who are unable to use stairs. However, Ema stated that some facilities required further maintenance.

“Because (it is) empty, vandalism proliferates, many glassblock are broken because they are used as a skating route. Water and toilets must be examined further,” he said.

In addition to maintaining facilities, Ema said that the Bandung City Government would work together with a group of creative young people to help Teras Cihampelas become alive and attract visitors.

“We will work together with Rotor, a group of creative young people. There will be various events that will become attracting visitors to come to Teras Cihampelas,” he said.

The Bandung City Government is also supported by PT. Mayora to supplement the facilities in Teras Cihampelas.

“There will be a beehive canopy from Mayora. It is to prevent from heavy rain impact and direct sunlight. This canopy will be mounted across teras 5-8,” Ema emphasized.

After being supported with facilities, Ema also hoped that PKL (street vendors) could occupy kiosks provided by the Bandung City Government again.

If there are any PKL’s needs, they will be discussed with the available coordinators and managers.

“Let us communicate to cohesively open these kiosks together. List the requirements. If it is feasible, it can be supported by financial agencies. Just don’t make them up, must be the actual needs,” he said.

On the other hand, the Coordinator of PKL of Teras Cihampelas, Nana, said that culinary vendors he managed preferred to run their business under compared to on the Teras Cihampelas.

“Street vendors don’t want to run their business above because visitors prefer to visit under (it). When visitors go upward, apparently, (they are) closed. Well, there are only two beverage kiosks that still run their business above,” Nana said.

Concerning this, the escort of PKL from Cooperative and SMEs Agency, Iwan Sosiawan, stated that it required support from Satpol PP to discipline PKL under Teras Cihampelas.

“If they are moved upward, we can optimize these street vendors together. We will support them with knowledge of finance, legality, and marketing,” Iwan said. (din)*
