Fire Burning RSUD Bandung Kiwari, the Regional Secretary: The Evacuation Went Well and There Were No Casualties

The evacuation process of patients in RSUD Bandung Kiwari who was burnt on Tuesday, 5 April 2022, went smoothly. The fire incident also did not result in any casualties.

It was stated by the Regional Secretary of Bandung City, Ema Sumarna, when surveying the site, RSUD Bandung Kiwari. Previously, this hospital was reported on fire. The suspected cause of the fire was short circuits.

 

“Although there is still smoke, it can be pierced so there is no damage on the adjacent floor. We have also ensured to Damkar, it is clear, from what I have seen, the source of fire is quenched,” Ema said.

 

Ema said that currently the cooling process was still underway.

 

In the same place, the Acting Director of RSUD Bandung Kiwari, Taat Taroge, said that the patients inflicted by the fire had been evacuated and would gradually be returned to their respective room.

 

Although it was a little disturbed, Taat ensured that services in RSUD Bandung Kiwari would still be provided.

 

“When on fire, fortunately, there were no activities (medical treatments or surgeries). The evacuation went relatively well, as there were not many patients,” Taat said.

 

Additionally, the Head of Fire Suppression Division of Firefighter and Disaster Management Agency of Bandung City, M. Yusuf, said they were receiving a report (fire) at around 14.29 WIB and immediately went to the hospital. They received the report stating that there were clouds of smoke on the fifth floor.

 

“(We) received the report at around 14.29 WIB stating there were clouds of smoke on the fifth floor in (RSUD) Bandung Kiwari, supposedly caused by short circuits,” he said in the incident location.

 

He said that the firefighters immediately isolated the fire to prevent it from spreading.

 

The firefighters on site had also to forcefully break a window to make a ventilation for the smoke.

 

“Firefighters on the fifth floor, the source of fire alhamdulillah was isolated, they are breaking a window to prevent the smoke from building within the room, creating a ventilation,” he emphasized. (ray)*
