The Bandung City Government will collaborate with the UK Government. In an online meeting, Thursday, 7 April 2022, the Acting Mayor of Bandung City, Yana Mulyana, discussed four things with the British Ambassador to Indonesia, Owen Jenkins.

The four things were: transportation, waste management, clean water availability, and renewable energy.

Yana hoped that the collaboration with the UK Government concerning the four aspects would promote the economic growth in Bandung City after the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Thanks for today’s meeting. Although it was online, I hope this does not reduce the main point of the collaboration developing the already-good Bandung City to be better,” Yana said.

Specifically, he explained the expectations of Bandung City to collaborate in transportation as a means to support high-speed rail transportation.

As for collaboration in clean water availability, it will be based on commercial development in Bandung City.

Additionally, in renewable energy, the Bandung City Government is trying to make Bandung City “so bright”.

In the meeting, Yana said that conventional street lighting would be replaced with LED-based lighting with less electric power.

It is worth noting that conventional street lighting currently is at 500 watt. If converted to LED lighting, then, the required energy will only be 120 watt.

“We believe UK has had sophisticated technology. Because of that, the Bandung City Government is open to collaborations, particularly in addressing the aforesaid prioritized aspects,” he said.

On that occasion, the British Ambassador to Indonesia, Owen Jenkins, said that Bandung City’s priorities were in line with that of the British Government.

He hoped that the collaboration between the Bandung City Government and British Government would be soon realized.

“Some priorities were in line with us. In addition, there are also technological aspects in which we can help (collaborated with the British Government (for the Bandung City Government),” Owen said.

As a reminder, Bandung City was previously chosen as one of the pilot projects for Global Future Cities or Kota Masa Depan. The program focused on developing mass transportation system and city arrangement. (ray)**
