As a response of good news from the central government regarding mudik permission for Eid Mubarak this year, the Bandung City Government is preparing all supporting facilities for people’s mudik (homecoming).

One of the preparations includes vehicles’ safety. It is because mudik travellers’ rise this year is predicted to reach three times higher compared to that in 2019.

Being met after the “Bandung Menjawab” event in Dewi Sartika Park, Wednesday, 13 April 2022, the Acting Head of Transportation Safety and Discipline Division of the Transportation Agency of Bandung City, Asep Kuswara, stated that 7.000 units of buses would be utilized in this year’s mudik.

“A total of 7.000 units of buses will be used for mudik that will be spread in the east side and west side of Leuwipanjang, Cicaheum Terminal,” Asep said.

Before being used in the incoming mudik, Asep said that his team would perform a safety inspection (Ramp Check) to ensure the vehicles’ roadworthy.

“This Thursday, we will check the vehicles’ roadworthy in Cicaheum Terminal. We will also work together with the police and organda to perform inspections in several locations,” he said.

It is because, according to Asep, during an earlier inspection, out of 20 buses, only two of them were safe enough to be used. He believed that this happened because many buses were not operating since the mudik prohibition was issues two years ago.

“For example, many have problems in their wipers. Although it is insignificant, this is highly required when raining. The next issue is the windows. They must not be film windows because they are not safe. Or broken dims,” he emphasized.

Asep highlited that, although this year’s mudik is allowed, still, the public had to keep their safety. In fact, in this pandemic, safety must be doubled.

“First, stay safe with health protocols, do not get into the euphoria. Second, stay safe by looking at the vehicle’s roadworthy and driver. Do not be afraid to critique and report dangerous drivers,” he asked.

Additionally, the Head of Organda DPC Bandung, Neneng Djuraidah, believed that she would check public transportation periodically before and after the Eid Mubarak.

“We work together with the Dishub of Bandung City to check mudik preparation as to vehicles’ roadworthy during the mudik. Certainly, the pandemic from the last two year affects 50% of vehicles, making them incapable to be operating,” Neneng said.

She said that, a week before and after the Eid Mubarak, her team would keep monitoring drivers tasked for the Eid Mubarak.

“We will check every bus departure. Organda also works together with the Health Agency (Dinkes) of Bandung City to vaccinate the drivers of every company,” she said. (din)**
