80 Bandung City Athletes Will Compete in Pesonas 2022

As many as 80 athletes from the City of Bandung are part of the West Java contingent that will take part in the National Special Olympic Week (Pesonas) which will be held by the Special Olympic Indonesia (SOIna) in Semarang, Central Java on 3-8 July 2022.

Pesonas is an event that contains competitions for 12 sports and other activities such as arts, culture, SOIna family and youth congress to health checks.

Meanwhile, Bandung City athletes will participate in 11 sports that will be competed.

Regarding this, the Mayor of Bandung, Yana Mulyana hopes that the athletes who will compete will be able to make achievements in the event.

Yana ensured that the City of Bandung carried out coaching well to face every competition.

"This competition proves that the City of Bandung is carrying out coaching," he said when he received the Special Olympics Indonesia (SOIna) Board of Bandung City, at Bandung City Hall, Wednesday, June 29, 2022.

Meanwhile, Head of SOIna Bandung City, Abdul Karim explained, several sports including table tennis, badminton, soccer, futsal, gymnastics, swimming, bocce, basketball, and volleyball.

"There are a number of athletes who will take part in the show later, 80 athletes for 11 sports and 15 coaches," he explained.

He revealed, the athletes came from schools in the city of Bandung.

"The minimum age is 16 years, for athletes not only from school but from special schools in Bandung," he said.

He revealed, in 2018, West Java won 12 gold medals and 9 of them were donated by athletes from the city of Bandung.

He hopes, this year will get better achievements than before.

"Because the number of athletes this year is more, it is hoped that we will get more gold than last year," he said.

The 1st National Special Olympic Week (PeSONas) 2022 is a 4-year agenda as a renewal of the SOINA National Sports Week (Ponas) which has been held since 1990, for athletes with special talents (with intellectual disabilities).

The 1st PeSONas 2022 will be held on 3-8 July 2022 in Semarang City, Central Java Province, not only competing in sports, but also performing arts and culture, for specially talented athletes from all over Indonesia.

This is also a selection event for athletes who will represent Indonesia at the Special Olympic World Summer Games in 2023, in Berlin, Germany. (yan)**
