Ahead of Eid al-Adha on July 10, Mouth and Nail Diseases (FMD) still haunt livestock.

Until now, this FMD outbreak has spread in 3 sub-districts in Bandung, namely Bandung Kulon, Babakan Ciparay and Cibiru sub-districts.

However, the MUI Fatwa Number 32 of 2022 explains the characteristics of animals that are still legal to be used as sacrificial animals.

Animals that have mild clinical symptoms, such as mild blisters on the nail gaps, lethargic condition, no appetite, and excessive salivation, are still valid for sacrifice.

For this, the Head of the Food Security Division of the Bandung City Food and Agriculture Security Service (DKPP), Ermariah, gave some tips on how to process sacrificial meat to prevent FMD outbreaks.

According to him, the meat obtained should not be washed. Because the FMD virus will survive in water and can spread in water channels.

"When washed, the waste water will go directly to the canal. The FMD virus in the water can live for 75 days. This virus lasts a long time in the air outside. It lasts a long time on objects and also survives in the air," he said at Bandung City Hall, Wednesday 6 July 2022.

After that, it is recommended to immediately boil for 30 minutes and immediately discard the boiled water.

"Don't throw it in waterways. That way it will be safer, because the virus dies in heating," he said

If you don't want to process it, when the meat is obtained, it is stored immediately in the refrigerator temperature. After 24 hours just freeze in the freezer.

"This is just a suggestion. If you feel the meat is dirty, boil it and throw it away. Then it can be processed," he said. (rob)**
