The plan is that the two campuses will establish a joint campus in the city of Bandung.

For information, representatives from Deakin University and Lancaster University have held several hearings with the Bandung City Government, namely on May 25, 2022, which were received by the Head of the Cooperation Section and accompanied by several related agencies. And on June 30, 2022, which was received by the Head of Bappelitbang.

In an audience with representatives from Lancaster University, the Mayor of Bandung, Yana Mulyana said that the Bandung City Government welcomed the joint development plan of the two campuses.

“We are very open to offers of cooperation in the field of education. But of course, there needs to be an initial study to determine the desired location (to establish a joint campus)," Yana said at City Hall, Tuesday, June 12, 2022.

On his journey later, the Bandung City Government will wait for an initial study related to the establishment of a campus with Lancaster University and Deakin University.

The Bandung City Government through the One Stop Integrated Service and Investment Service (DPMPTSP) will also assist in licensing this matter.

Meanwhile, Lancaster University's Pro Vice Chancellor of Global, Simon Guy said, in the future there are 3 faculties planned to be present on this combined campus.

The three faculties include business, computers, and engineering. However, his party is open if the Bandung City Government proposes other faculty options.

"This collaboration is an effort to solve the problems we face together," said Simon.

For information, the selection of Bandung City as the location for the establishment of the joint campus has gone through a long process.

This is also because the City of Bandung has established good cooperation with the City of Melbourne and there is also a collaboration between Deakin University and ITB Postgraduate.

The plan is that this campus will open in September 2023. In the early stages, land or buildings will be leased for 5 years. If the process is smooth, there will be investment opportunities for land purchases in the city of Bandung.

The establishment of this joint campus will involve Navitas as management and administrator of the university. Currently, the permit from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology is still in process. Deakin University will establish a foundation as a condition for establishing a university in Indonesia until it gets a recommendation.

On the other hand, Bappelitbang Kota Bandung offers a location in East Bandung, especially Summarecon as a location for the establishment of a campus.

Also to note, Lancaster University is included in the Top 15 Universities in the UK, number 146 in the world according to the QS World University Rankings 2023 and number 122 according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022. (ray)**
