Empty Land Magic, Motekar Educational House Becomes Community Education Center

The Motekar Educational House in Cihapit Village is here to become a community education center to develop the concept of food security, waste management, and public education.

Starting from the use of vacant land in the middle of Bandung City, the 700 square meter land was transformed into an educational house.

The Coordinator of the Motekar Educational Home, Iman Sinarjadi, said that the construction of the Motekar Educational Home began in 2019, initiated by Cihapit Village together with residents to utilize the vacant land owned by the Bandung City Government.

"The idea is that we will create an educational place for residents for urban farming and the development of the community's economic potential," he told Public Relations of Bandung City, Thursday, October 6, 2022.

Various programs and innovations are present at the Education House through the 7 Motekar program. First, take care of flora and fauna to increase the happiness index of the elderly.

Improving the community's economy through various trainings for MSMEs such as determining HPP, marketing, handcraft, and training in preparing financial reports.

In addition, there are also social service programs such as free health checks and social services for the surrounding community.

Food security through urban farming of hydroponic plants and fruit crops, cultivation of tilapia and catfish, cultivation of laying hens, cultivation of magot and honey bees.

There are also programs to improve the quality of millennial innovation, namely content creator training, opening online stores, exploring business programs and training creative industries

An English Language School was also present to improve the language skills of the community. Lastly, the organic and inorganic waste management program

"So far the Motekar education house has processed more than 9,942 kg of organic waste and 7,585 kg of inorganic waste," he said.

These various training programs were then implemented by residents in their respective homes in the Cihapit sub-district.

"Many have planted hydroponics to catfish cultivation. In addition, MSMEs around here have also started going online," he said.

Motekar Educational House has been visited by more than 20 universities in Indonesia to become an incubator for the practice of science.

"Alhamdulillah, they have come from Unpad, ITB, Unair, UGM, Unpar, Unpas, Unisba, Sangga Buana, and Telkom University. We also collaborate with them," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Cihapit Village, Inda Choerul Bariah hopes that through various programs implemented at the Motekar Educational House, the community can become independent in managing waste, family food security and economic improvement.

"We encourage people to be independent to reduce waste, have food security and utilize vacant land in a household-scale environment," he said.

He also said the presence of the Motekar Educational House was also an effort to increase the community's happiness index and education that could be implemented by the residents of Cihapit Village and to support the Bandung Mayor's priority program. (rob)**
