Bandung City RBM Embraces and Facilitates Persons with Disabilities

RBM Bandung City already has its cadres who are voluntary, working from the RW, kelurahan, and 30 sub-districts.

These cadres collaborate with each other to realize the purpose of the presence of RBM, namely assisting families with disabilities to become independent for people with disabilities, and being able to overcome disabilities.

Based on the mandate of the law, persons with disabilities include sensory, physical, intellectual, and mental disabilities. In the city of Bandung, mental and intellectual disabilities are the most common disabilities faced.

For example, people with mental disorders (ODGJ), Down syndrome, and developmental disorders that cause imbalanced growth or autism.

RBM's efforts to deal with this condition are moving through assistance to families. RBM trains how to handle children with disabilities in their respective homes.

However, if it turns out that the condition is difficult to overcome within the family, then a referral can be made. When trained in the kelurahan, they move up to the sub-district level, then to the city level.

In addition to training families with disabilities, RBM also facilitates Bandung City Government (Pemkot) programs. RBM is committed to supporting the Bandung City Government in providing protection and services to persons with disabilities.

Because, in 2021, as many as 5,140 people with disabilities in Bandung City need to get attention for welfare.

One of the other efforts that has been made by RBM to reach out to people with disabilities is to provide a Home Therapy program during International Disability Day on 3 September 2021.

Other recent assistance provided by RBM is health services at the Bandung Kiwari Hospital which includes physical services, rehabilitation, ENT, ortho, dental, eye, oncology, and others.

In fact, treatment and follow-up examinations will be facilitated at the Bandung Kiwari Hospital for free. Then, there will be referrals to provide the best health services for people with disabilities.

According to the Head of RBM Bandung, Yunimar Mulyana, this is an effort to increase the role and function of RBM for empowerment and rehabilitation as well as facilitating access to services for people with disabilities.

In 2020, RBM Bandung City has launched various innovative rehabilitation and empowerment programs to provide access to referrals for people with disabilities (pedi). From the number of submissions reaching 128 people, 110 pedi have been facilitated.

However, he admits that these efforts are not perfect and they still need to work extra hard so that the services provided to pedi can be maximized.

Therefore, he invites all parties to work together with Bandung City RBM, regional, and related agencies in solving various problems faced in relation to pedi. (din)**
