Overcoming Floods, Bandung Municipal Government Builds 9 New Retention Ponds, 647 Shallow Infiltration Wells, and 3,706 Drumpori

The high intensity of recent rainfall has been one of the factors causing inundation and flooding at a number of points in the city of Bandung. The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) is moving with stakeholders to try to deal with inundation and flooding that occurs.

Various efforts have been made, including building 9 new retention ponds, 22 deep infiltration wells, 647 shallow infiltration wells, and 3,706 pore drums.

In addition, the Bandung City Government also routinely dredges waterways, as well as providing water pump houses that are ready for floods.

Like the Rancabolang Retention Pool, which has a long history since 2019. This pool, which has an area of around 8,000 square meters, begins to function as a water absorber during heavy rains.

The Bandung City Government has also constructed 5,000 shallow recharge wells and 30 deep recharge wells. That number will continue to grow in each room.

Special technology has also been presented to deal with floods. One of them is a pump house in the Kopo Citarip area. This area is an area that has a lot of sediment. So it requires a pump that can suck up the mud as well.

In fact, this year there are three pump houses being built in the city of Bandung, namely in Cingingsed, Rancabolang to handle floods in Gedebage and Adipura. And another one at Kopo Citarip.

Improving to anticipate flooding, in 2023 the Bandung City Government will build an additional retention pond in Margahayu Raya. Then, the pump house in Cibaduyut is under the toll road and the pump house on Jalan Ters Pasirkoja exits the toll road.

The Mayor of Bandung, Yana Mulyana said that handling the flood problem is not an easy matter and can be solved instantly because it is related to many things.

"It's not just infrastructure repair, but also related to human behavior. Solving the flood problem must be done holistically and requires participatory steps from all parties," said Yana.

Bandung City Government cannot solve this alone. It takes cooperation and collaboration from various elements of society so that the challenges of inundation and flooding can be resolved immediately.

"Therefore, let's raise awareness from each of us to contribute to keeping the environment clean by not littering which is often the cause of flood problems," he added. (din)**
