Founded in 1966, Saung Angklung Udjo was built as proof of dedication to preserving traditional Sundanese art and culture, West Java.

The founder, Udjo Ngalagena, fueled the passion and determination to make Rumah Angklung Udjo a meeting place for Sundanese art and culture to develop and be known and respected from various parts of the world.

Saung Angklung Udjo has become one of Bandung's cultural icons and a very popular tourist spot for local and foreign tourists.

Saung Angklung Udjo offers a wide variety of angklung music experiences, including stunning live performances and lessons on how to play the traditional instrument.

Kamila Putri, as the third generation granddaughter of Udjo's father, is currently in charge of being the host and guest relations officer, saying that there are regular performances every day.

"Regular performances feature performances 5-4 times, in the morning and evening and display 7 performance materials including puppet show demonstrations, Helaran ceremonies, traditional dance arts, and angklung performances," said Kamila.

The live performances offered by Saung Angklung Udjo involve talented angklung players playing various songs in various genres. Ranging from traditional songs to modern pop songs.

Angklung performances that are held also vary, ranging from beginner angklung, orchestral angklung, mass, to arumba.

"We already have more than 500 students from the surrounding community. Apart from performing, they also learn to sing, dance and of course learn traditional musical instruments," said Kamila.

Learning how to play the angklung is also very enjoyable. Visitors can take part in music classes given by experienced angklung players and learn how to play the instrument.

This class is very fun and helps the visitors to understand and enjoy angklung music more deeply.

“Indonesian visitors are usually from Central Java and East Java. As for foreign countries, they are usually from the Netherlands, Korea and Japan," said Kamila.

Apart from live performances and lessons on how to play the angklung, Saung Angklung Udjo also offers various collections of angklung that visitors can see and try.

This collection includes various types of angklung from various regions in Indonesia and shows the development and evolution of angklung music throughout history.

"Saung Angklung Udjo's hope is that we can unite all groups because according to the philosophy of angklung, it doesn't matter what country we are from, it doesn't matter what color your skin is, it doesn't matter what religion you are, with angklung we can make together," hoped Kamila.

The diversity of Indonesian culture is a source of pride that must be preserved. In the land of West Java, Saung Angklung Udjo will bring you to enjoy the uniqueness of Sundanese culture with an authentic atmosphere accompanied by the harmonious strains of Angklung music.(anisa/rahma-magang)**
