The Head of the Bandung City Transportation Service, Dadang Darmawan said, the diesel train which is currently the public transportation for the Padalarang - Bandung - Cicalengka route will be converted into KRL in the future.

The conversion process will be in 2024 or the first stage will be implemented for Padalarang - Bandung. Followed by the second stage, Bandung - Cicalengka.

"Gradually, the feeder, which was originally a diesel train, will be replaced with an electric train," said Dadang after an audience with the Director General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation.

He added, the conversion of KRD to KRL is also included as one of the feeders for the Jakarta Bandung Fast Train (KCJB) which will later operate in the Greater Bandung area.

Dadang also said that public transportation is an important and strategic issue in the city of Bandung. So that with the presence of adequate public transportation, the number of congestion in the city of Bandung can be reduced.

"In principle, the Bandung City Government is very supportive and happy with programs related to the accessibility of people who will visit the city of Bandung," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Operational Facility Sub Directorate of the Director General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation, Ferdian Suryo, said that the conversion of KRD to KRL has the potential to increase the number of passengers or users of this public transportation service.

He reflects on the successful conversion of the Prameks train (Solo - Yogyakarta route), which increased the number of users by up to 100 percent.

Ferdian explained that the 61 Padalarang - Bandung - Cicalengka trains (KRD) currently operating can carry up to 45,000 passengers per day.

"So we also ask for collaboration with the Bandung City Government for the future process," said Ferdian.

Furthermore, the Bandung City Government will coordinate technically with the Director General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation regarding the conversion of KRD to KRL. (ray)**
