The handover was given by the Mayor of Bandung, Yana Mulyana to class 2A Banceuy Bandung residents at Banceuy Prison, Monday 13 March 2023.

The Mayor of Bandung, Yana Mulyana said that one of the obligations of the Bandung City Government is to provide services to the public to obtain population administration rights, especially ahead of the 2024 General Election (Pemilu).

"We give population administration rights to inmates. Because elections require accurate data," he said.

According to him, by having an electronic KTP, the inmates get legal certainty in administrative matters.

"Inmates must have an electronic KTP so they can take care of administration while in prison and after returning to society later," he said.

Electronic KTP can be used for administrative purposes such as sentence remission, assimilation, rehabilitation until later when returning to society.

"This aims to fulfill the rights and obligations as citizens while at the same time supporting the establishment of an accurate population database," he said.

In addition, an orderly population administration can be used by assisted residents to access various basic services in the city of Bandung.

"The city of Bandung has implemented UHC, every citizen who has an ID card for the city of Bandung seeks free treatment," he said.

"KTP Bandung residents have the right to get education in the city of Bandung. For those who are prone to continue their education, it's free. So population administration is very important," he added.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Regional Office of the West Java Ministry of Law and Human Rights, R. Andika Dwi Prasetya appreciated and thanked the Mayor of Bandung who cares about the basic rights of inmates.

"I express my appreciation and gratitude for helping our duties and functions in providing services to inmates," he said.

He hopes that the collaboration with the Bandung City Government will continue, especially for the fulfillment of the right to population administration for every member of the community.

Currently, he said there are 3,000 inmates whose rights need to be considered to access various health facilities and other basic services.

"I believe that the Bandung City Government has a vision for the welfare of the community. Not only for election preparations, I hope there will be continuity so that the assisted citizens do not lose their rights as citizens with a population identity," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Bandung Class IIA Banceuy Penitentiary, Heri Kusrita, confirmed that he had recorded an electronic KTP with the Bandung City Disdukcapil.

"This is to compile a voter list in a special location at the Banceuy prison in coordination with Disdukcapil to record electronic KTPs," he said. (rob)**
