The Legislature Resolves the Sister City of Bandung and Melbourne

The Sister City cooperation plan between the City of Bandung and the City of Melbourne, Australia has been officially approved by the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) for the City of Bandung.

The approval was made at the Bandung City DPRD Plenary Session at the Bandung City DPRD Building, Thursday, March 30, 2023.

The City of Bandung and the City of Melbourne have agreed to cooperate in 5 areas, namely smart cities, economy and trade, human resource capacity building, child-friendly cities and startup companies.

Chairman of Commission A DPRD Bandung City, Rizal Khairul said, based on the provisions of Article 30 paragraphs 1 and 2 of Government Regulation Number 28 of 2018 broadly states that regional cooperation with regional governments abroad must obtain the approval of the regional people's representative council for the process of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

"According to the results of the meeting, in principle commission A supports and approves of this cooperation," he said when giving the report.

For this, the Mayor of Bandung, Yana Mulyana said he was grateful and hoped that the cooperation that would be forged with the City of Melbourne would provide broad benefits for the community.

"Hopefully the cooperation that we will establish later will provide optimal benefits for the community, especially in these five fields," said Yana.

Previously, on May 10 2019, a draft Letter of Intent (Lol) was signed on a cooperation plan between the Bandung City government and the City of Melbourne.

Then proceed with the preparation of the Cooperation Plan or Term of Reference and Plan of Action which describes the aims and objectives of the cooperation and the benefits obtained.

Furthermore, he signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the two cities as a form of commitment to cooperation. (rob)**
