Pump House Will Overcome Leuwipanjang's Annual Flood

To deal with flooding, the Bandung City Government (Pemkot) will add pump houses (rupom), one of which is on Jalan Leuwipanjang. Apart from that, regular dredging of river sedimentation will also be carried out.

This was conveyed by Acting Mayor of Bandung Ema Sumarna visiting a number of locations in Bandung City, Friday 12 May 2023. Ema said, if there is already a Rupom in Leuwipanjang, the river will flow normally.

"Flooding in Leuwipanjang is also a problem due to sedimentation. Normally the water should be heading south, but there are acts of people who block the river, so it can't flow normally," said Ema.

"In conditions like this, the quick solution is to install a pumping well. But right now it's being auctioned off. Once there's a pumping well, the water will be pushed to Citepus," he continued.

Patterns like this, according to him, can be generalized to other locations that flood regularly, such as in Cibadak.

It is different with the floods in the Citarip Street area, Kopo Village, Bojongloa Kaler District. From the results of monitoring, the problem of flooding there is caused by sedimentation and problems with the behavior of residents who still throw garbage into the river.

"The solution is that Gober has to work hard twice a week. But on the one hand, the pump house will be optimized so that the water flow can be completely normal later," he said.

He will also reduce people who close the water ropes for personal gain. He directed that the regional apparatus be able to take action against the perpetrators.

"There is a record, it turns out that there are people here who take advantage of the flood. They close the water ropes to earn a living by helping the drivers of the vehicles that have broken down. That is not right, it must be reduced," he said.

According to Ema, flood management needs to be prioritized because it correlates with road repairs. This is because this year there will be overlays on several roads according to the budget.

"This is what we will prioritize. Meanwhile, those that have not been budgeted for will become our records with the hope that all roads in the city of Bandung will be comfortable and can be well paved," he said.

"We are still pressing so that the flood problem does not destroy the road that has been repaired now," added Ema. (din)**
