Bandung City Government Encourages All RWs to Implement Kang Pisman

The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) encourages the Kang Pisman program (Reduce, Segregate, and Make Use of Waste) to be implemented in every neighborhood unit (RW) in the city of Bandung. Currently in the city of Bandung there are 1,568 RWs.

The Mayor of Bandung Daily Executive, Ema Sumarna, this waste management effort can be carried out massively in all RWs in Bandung City using the snowball method.

If this concept works, it could make Bandung a zero waste city.

For this reason, the Bandung City Government gathered all RW heads in the former Gedebage area to educate and socialize Kang Pisman at the RW level.

"In Bandung there are 1,568 RWs. If the garbage is finished there, this city is better. Later, we can deal with market waste by Perumda Pasar," he said at the Gedebage District Office, Sunday, May 14 2023.

According to him, if Kang Pisman walks at all points, the volume of waste generation can be reduced. Because later, the waste problem will be resolved from the upstream level, namely the household.

"At various points it runs, the waste is finished at the location. It is separated between organic, inorganic, and residue. This means that when it's done, the waste will be greatly reduced," he said.

Apart from household waste, according to him, various markets in the city of Bandung greatly contribute to waste generation.

He considered that traders and people who are active in the market still do not care about waste handling.

Ema said that the success story of independent waste management through Kang Pisman can be seen in RW 12 Maleer Village. Because there, according to him, the mindset of the people in managing waste is much better.

For example, the implementation of Kang Pisman, schedule for waste transportation, and waste management at TPS.

"The people's mindset, actions and behavior are in accordance with what we expect. Public awareness to sort organic, inorganic and residual waste has been carried out," he said.

Garbage at TPS is processed into several products. Starting from compost, river filters, to junk that can be reprocessed.

Ema said, it is indeed not easy to change people's habits to be able to sort waste by themselves. However, with massive outreach and education, the community can gradually sort and manage their own waste.

"The key is a joint commitment to make the city of Bandung better. This is gradual, we will see progress. This applies as a whole. The sub-district head and village head make reports, which RWs are running and which are not running," he said.

"At least the volume is reduced. If (Kang Pisman) applies, this is a joint success," he added.

It is planned that similar education and outreach will continue to be held every week in all RWs in the city of Bandung.

The hope is that all RWs in the city of Bandung can process their own waste from upstream and can manage waste by forming a unit waste bank in their area.

Meanwhile, the Head of DLH, Dudy Prayudi, said that the garbage problem in Bandung recently had to be solved together. So he invited the community to be able to reduce waste in their environment.

"There needs to be a massive effort to reduce waste from the RW. So that reducing waste to TPS can be handled by each RW," he said.

For this reason, the implementation of Kang Pisman in all regions must be carried out immediately so that the waste problem can be handled. (rob)**
