Bandung City Government Facilitates Educational Achievement Pathways for Athletes
The Bandung Championship Single Event Sports Week (Portue) which has been running for several days is expected to be able to grow the potential of new athletes.
One of the sports competitions is Tarung Derajat at the West Java Tangkas Sport GOR, Friday-Sunday, 27-29 October 2023. The opening of this match was carried out directly by the Acting Mayor of Bandung, Bambang Tirtoyuliono.
"The Tarung Derajat sport was born in the city of Bandung. Not only are we proud, but we also have to maintain and develop this sport," said Bambang.
He said, Portue is an innovation from the Bandung City Government (Pemkot) which was previously known as the Mayor's Cup. This year there are 32 sports being contested.
"In the city of Bandung there are 76 sports, but we can only hold Portue for 32 sports. We hope that next year all sports can take part in Portue," he said.
He emphasized that the tagline that is attached to each match is not just a tagline. However, it is a mandate and philosophy that must be carried out.
"The basics of Tarung Derajat are awareness and independence. Sportsmanship is the key word. Brotherhood and kinship are the basic capital. I advise you to uphold sportsmanship so that when we fight we are given safety," he explained.
He also emphasized that the Bandung City Government can make it easier for athletes who want to continue their education through the achievement route.
"This Portue is an opportunity for all children to get this opportunity. Have fun fighting, carry out your duties in accordance with the mandate and direction that we uphold from the Tarung Derajat extended family," he said.
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive of Tarung Derajat, Yosep Heryansyah, explained that the Tarung Derajat Portue championship between students and the general public was a cycle to find top athletes in the city of Bandung.
"The match will be held for three days from 27-29 October 2023. Starting at 08.00-17.00 WIB," said Yosep.
There are 8 categories contested in Tarung Derajat, namely elementary school level women's and men's fighting, middle school level women's and men's fighting, high school level women's and men's fighting, general fighting, elementary school level women's and men's movement arts, junior high school level women's and men's movement arts, high school level women's and men's movement arts, and general category movement arts.
"The number of Tarung Derajat participants this year reached 233 participants. Hopefully it can run smoothly and produce superior seeds of Tarung Derajat athletes in Bandung City," he said. (din)**
