Bandung City Government Continues to Effort to Reduce Poverty Rates

The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) continues to strive to provide protection to the community by reducing poverty rates.

"The poverty figure in Bandung City is 330 thousand families (heads of families). This number is based on DTKS (Integrated Social Welfare Data)," said Acting Mayor of Bandung, Bambang Tirtoyuliono, Tuesday 5 December 2023.

Bambang admitted that he would encourage related agencies to identify the data.

"We will re-identify the data. Of course we will try to deepen it (the data)," he said.

According to him, there are many parameters of society that are categorized as poor. Such as access to job opportunities to skills.

"There are many parameters, one of which is access to job opportunities. Maybe we can provide skills that the market needs, so that poverty and unemployment rates can be reduced," he stressed.

In the same place, the Head of the Bandung City Social Service, Sony Bakhtiar, revealed that poverty data in Bandung City is 330 thousand families registered with DTKS, but not all of them fall into the extreme poor category.

Sony said, while data from the Acceleration of Elimination of Extreme Poverty (P3KE), the extreme poverty data was 87 thousand families.

"According to the P3KE data, there are 87 thousand families. But we will compare it with the Socio-Economic Registration (Regsosek) from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). So we are waiting for valid data from BPS. Later we will announce the real data from BPS," he said.

He said that those registered as extreme poor would receive assistance according to the provisions. The government also provides social protection and security assistance.

"All those who are in extreme poverty will receive assistance. In essence, we provide protection and social security," said Sony. (yan)**
