This was revealed by the Regional Secretary of Bandung City, Ema Sumarna when inspecting waste processing in Bandung Wetan District, Monday 11 December 2023.

According to Ema, of the total 1,600 tons of waste in Bandung City, currently only around 900 tons are thrown into the landfill. This reduction of around 700 tons is the result of the Bandung City Government's efforts to socialize the Kang Pisman program.

In detail, Ema said that around 300 tons of waste had been permanently finished with this program. Furthermore, there were 104 tons of waste that were collected in the area during monitoring results.

The latest data shows that around 295 tons of waste have been processed. Even so, the Bandung City Government is still tracking the amount of 295 tons so that the data can be accounted for.

"Our results (of the socialization process during the waste emergency) are there. Currently we are throwing around 900 tons of waste to the landfill. This number has decreased from the initial 1,600 tons," said Ema.

Even though there is still some homework left, Ema is grateful that the socialization process and massive implementation efforts of Kang Pisman have borne fruit. He hopes that the amount of Bandung City waste thrown into the landfill can continue to be reduced.

"Hopefully the results will decrease every week. From 800 tons, 1 ton, 1 kilogram, finally there will be no waste. We are optimistic," he said.

During the remainder of the waste emergency period, the Bandung City Government also routinely carries out monitoring. As of Monday 11 December 2023, the Waste Emergency Task Force has visited 22 of the 30 sub-districts in Bandung City.

In her capacity as Daily Chair of the Bandung City Waste Emergency Task Force, Ema continues to strive to unite the community's frequency in managing waste.

"We have a little time left. In 15 days we will have to face the waste emergency. It's called a temporary emergency, it can't be forever," said Ema.

Currently, the Bandung City Government is also waiting for the presence of a sub-district-based Waste Free Zone in Rancabolang Village. Ema is optimistic that in the near future, this area can become a model for other sub-districts in Bandung City.

"There all the people are united in sorting waste. Organic waste is processed into animal feed, inorganic waste collaborates with collectors, residual waste is still transported by DLH," he explained.

"But I am sure, here a sub-district-based Waste Free Zone will be born. The big dream is to have Bandung as a zero waste city. That is the dream of all of us. No longer seeing rubbish strewn on the streets," said Ema. (ray)**
