Becoming a Resilient Village, Palasari supports its residents through the produce of its own garden

Starting when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, residents of Palasari Village, Cibiru District, Bandung City, tried to get up and help each other to become self-sufficient in food. Moreover, Palasari is a densely populated area, consisting of 14 RWs, 83 RTs, and a total of 17,763 residents.

Head of Palasari Village, Eman Sulaeman, said that initially the community was still very dependent on food from outside the city. "However, when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, we really had difficulty meeting our daily needs. Finally, we agreed to start little by little to develop new habits with the presence of Buruan Sae," said Eman. Since then, Palasari Village has established Buruan Sae called Sabedug (sauyunan gardening cultivated together) in RW 13. Initially it was only to meet local consumption needs. That way, people don't need to go shopping outside, just use the garden produce in Buruan Sae. "However, thank God, it still exists. Once a week there is maintenance at Buruan Sae every Wednesday. It could be said to be effective because the community itself, even outsiders, feel the benefits," he admitted. Potential plants in Buruan Sae Sabedug include lamb chilies, shallots, pak choy, as well as fruits such as red guava and jackfruit. "By making modest use of land that can be useful for one's own family, generally for other people, let's try to make Buruan Sae. Hopefully it can fulfill our daily needs," he said. Not only plants, livestock are also cultivated here. There are laying hens, goats and sheep. Every day, people can take the eggs produced at Buruan Sae. Apart from farming, people in Palasari also regularly sort and process waste. Eman said that residents are used to sorting organic, inorganic and residual waste. After being sorted, inorganic waste that still has economic value is deposited into the Waste Bank. "We also have Kang Empos for processing organic waste. Apart from that, waste processing here also uses mini bricks in RW 13. The result is that waste processing is relatively fast, 30 minutes can process 1 ton of waste," explained Eman. He added that his area also has a maggot hangar for processing organic waste. There are also loseda (kitchen lodong sesa) in several residents' houses, especially residents whose house plots are not very large. "Thanks to this good habit, Buruan Sae Palasari won 2nd Place in Overtime Tohaga Lodaya from the Bandung Police in 2020. Palasari also won 3rd place in the eco office competition," he said. Apart from that, to improve public services, Palasari Village has a reporting system via WhatsApp to accommodate public complaints. (din)**
