This was stated by the Head of Rancabolang Village, Ahmad Nurhasan, when carrying out a Podcast with Bandung Public Relations.

"Waste management in Rancabolang Subdistrict is approaching completion. With maggot, but we are already 4 years early (implementing it)," he explained.

He revealed that since November 22 2019 his sub-district has been pioneering maggot management. Although supporting tools are still limited. At that time, it was only possible to eliminate 200-300 kg of kitchen waste per day.

In June 2020, Rancabolang Village received CSR from PT Pertamina for the development of maggots. From this assistance, there has been a significant change in waste management.

"In 2020 we received CSR from PT. Pertamina amounting to IDR 50 million, for the development of maggotization. We were given tools, such as boxes and so on. From this assistance we increased our waste management to 500-600 kg per day," said Ahmad.

When the city of Bandung had a waste emergency, he circulated a letter to the head of the RT to sort the waste from its source.

"We socialized massively, to groups, taklim councils, RT, RW, mosques, at the beginning of the year there were also community meetings, 'door to door' chats, we included this," he said.

Due to the hard work so far, all RWs in Rancabolang Village have become Waste Free Zones (KBS) on January 9 2024,

"We are the only sub-district in Bandung City that has all KBS RWs. So in the near future, we will inaugurate the first KBS area," he said.

Ahmad said that maggot management is the easiest and most environmentally friendly method.

"Maggots are the most environmentally friendly, nothing is wasted from maggots. From fresh maggots, we harvest 75-80 kg per day," he said.

He revealed that Rancabolang Village is able to dispose of around 2 tons of kitchen waste per day. However, waste production is only 900 kg - 1.3 tons per day.

"To add to this, we take vegetable and fruit waste at the Gedebage Main Market. Per week that's 700 kg - 1 ton of vegetable and fruit waste to cover that," he said.

"We have chickens, catfish and ducks. We make maggots as food for chickens, catfish and ducks. With maggots every day, catfish aged 2 months can be harvested. Even at 2.5 months, 1 kg contains 5 fish," explained Ahmad. . (yan)**
