Important to Know! These are the differences between past and present symptoms of dengue fever
Dengue fever (DHF) is not something new. However, in recent times, there have been several records of dengue fever cases encountered in the city of Bandung.
Head of the Bandung City Health Service (Dinkes), Anhar Hadian, said that the majority of dengue fever cases that recently occurred in Bandung City appeared with symptoms that were different from dengue fever in general.
As is known, the common symptoms of dengue fever that you should watch out for are sudden fever, headache, pain behind the eyeballs, nausea and vomiting, bleeding manifestations such as nosebleeds or bleeding gums, reddish skin rashes, and muscle, bone and joint pain. In addition, red spots appear on the sufferer's skin.
However, Anhar said that the majority of dengue fever cases in Bandung City recently did not show the signs that we usually recognize.
"The symptoms are a fever that doesn't go away. And there are no symptoms of red spots. This is what you need to watch out for," said Anhar at City Hall, Tuesday 26 March 2024.
He is worried that the symptoms of this 'new' dengue fever resemble the symptoms of the common cold. So people will think that the symptoms they are experiencing are the common cold.
Even so, Anhar explained that there is a fundamental difference between the symptoms of the common cold and the symptoms of dengue fever that have recently appeared.
"So the symptoms are fever. For two or three days it goes up, goes down a little, goes up again. The difference with the flu, if you have the flu, when you give it paracetamol, get enough rest and eat a lot, it will recover. So, for dengue fever after two- three days, he didn't get better," he explained.
Therefore, Anhar reminds people who experience fever symptoms that do not go away for more than two days to immediately access health services.
"If it's been like that for 2 days (showing symptoms of fever with temperature going up and down) be alert. Just take him to the Community Health Center straight away. Don't wait for it to get worse," he advised.
On this occasion, Anhar also said that as of Friday 22 March 2024, the number of dengue fever cases in Bandung City had reached 2,098. Therefore, he asked all parties to increase vigilance.
"2,098 cumulative cases throughout 2024. This is data as of Friday," he said. (ray)**
