"We, the Bandung City Government, are ready to support the kick off program," said Bambang on the sidelines of the Food Security and Agricultural Productivity Coordination Meeting in West Java, at Gedung Sate, Thursday, April 18 2024.

In the meeting, the Acting Governor of West Java, Bey Machmudin conveyed things that must be considered in food self-sufficiency.

“We must pay attention to food security. "If we want to talk about food self-sufficiency, we have to realistically look at stability," said Bey.

According to him, food stability can be achieved, one way is by pumping.

“The Ministry of Agriculture has freed up pumping in West Java. "Therefore, we can optimize water for food yields, especially rice," explained Bey.

This pumping, said Bey, is used for rainfed rice fields. So these Rain-Fed Rice Fields become a support for rice in West Java.

Meanwhile, the Regional Secretary of West Java Province, Herman Suryatman said, based on the 2024 West Java Province food balance, the production potential for rice reaches 7.2 million tons, while West Java's needs are 6.8 million tons.

"This means that West Java has the potential for a rice surplus," he said. (ziz)**
