After Eid, the Bandung City Government again focused on arranging street vendors in a number of areas

The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) is again focusing on organizing street vendors (PKL) in a number of areas. As is known, during the Ramadan period until Idul Fitri 1445 Hijriah some time ago, a number of roads in the city of Bandung began to be filled with street vendors again.

Assistant for Government and People's Welfare of the Bandung City Regional Secretariat, Asep Gufron, said that there are several areas that are the main priority for structuring street vendors. The most important point is the street vendors in the Bandung Square area.

Furthermore, Asep said that structuring street vendors in the Saparua and Struggle Monument (Monju) areas was also included in the main priority for structuring street vendors.

"We need joint collaboration from regional officials and other OPDs (Regional Apparatus Organizations). Especially in the Alun-alun area, it is 'clear' (the rules), it must be free from street vendors. The Bandung City Government has accommodated the basement area," said Asep in a Coordination Meeting at City Hall, Monday 22 April 2024.

Apart from this area, Asep also mentioned the Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) area, as well as the overflow market around Jalan Diponegoro as points of concern.

"These points in urban areas must be of concern to us," he said.

Apart from that, Asep also asked regional officials to continue monitoring areas in their territory. He believes that massive monitoring needs to be carried out so that the points of concern can be equally protected by street vendors.

He also hopes that all parties will consistently maintain each other's regulations. This means that controlling and enforcing regulations regarding street vendors does not only apply temporarily.

"We have to maintain consistency, provide education, outreach and enforcement. Don't let the community give the impression that enforcement of this rule is only temporary," he said.

On this occasion, the Head of the Bandung City Satpol PP, Rasdian Setiadi, also confirmed that the Bandung City Satpol PP continues to make efforts to coordinate and communicate in terms of structuring street vendors in a number of priority areas.

He believes that collaboration with regional authorities is very necessary in an effort to protect these areas from being used as land for street vendors.

"We conveyed this to the regional authorities. There must be firmness. We have communicated, one of which was to the street vendors in the Saparua area. There, it was clear that the street vendors were moved to the food court area. They must not spill onto the road," said Rasdian.

In the coordination meeting, the Daily Acting Regional Secretary for the City of Bandung, Hikmat Ginanjar, also asked, especially the OPD ranks, to maintain the appearance of the City of Bandung as Paris van Java.

Various aspects discussed at the meeting included: food security, bureaucratic reform, handling illegal parking, waste management, maintenance of city parks, tree maintenance, peace and order, health (especially cases of dengue fever), and the aesthetics of the city of Bandung.

"Let's return the city of Bandung to Paris van Java," said Hikmat. (ray)**
