"We are responding to the aspirations and problems of the community that there was a flood in RW 12, Babakan Village, Babakan Ciparay District last night," said the Daily Mayor of Bandung, Ema Sumarna, when visiting the flood point at Dian Permai Housing RW 12, Babakan Village, Babakan Ciparay District, Wednesday 7 June 2023.

"Earlier we saw that there was land for fasos fasum (social facilities for public facilities) which was handed over to the government. We will check and Ciptabintar will make a design for the retention pond," he added.

Ema assesses that the construction of the retention pond will have a significant impact in reducing flooding in the area.

"I'm sure the retention pond will have a significant impact, so the water will be retained," he said.

The construction of a retention pond will be carried out immediately, after obtaining approval from local residents.

"The key is in the community, to consult, if they agree to build a retention pond, we will immediately work on dredging according to the design," he said.

Apart from that, the City Government will also raise the Cilimus river embankment as high as half a meter to facilitate the flow of water.

In her review, Ema found that there was a narrowing of the river caused by illegal buildings built in the river body.

For this reason, he reminded the public not to build buildings along the river which could cause flooding.

"We urge the public not to build illegal buildings along river bodies and cover control tanks. Many of these have been made permanent. We are building public awareness," he said. (rob)**
