Bambang said this decision was taken after looking at various indicators of waste management that was under control in the city of Bandung.

"By considering various existing conditions, strategies and handling scenarios, starting on December 27 2023, we will lift the waste emergency," said Bambang.

Bambang said that the Emergency Waste Management Task Force would be transformed into an Independent and Sustainable Waste Management Task Force to continue to educate and supervise waste management.

"It is important for the Task Force to educate and continuously monitor waste management in the City of Bandung," he said.

He said that although the waste emergency status in Bandung City would be lifted, independent waste management in the community must continue.

"However, our efforts remain massive so as not to change the paradigm that is already massive in society," he said.

Meanwhile, the Regional Secretary of the City of Bandung as Daily Chair of the Emergency Waste Management Task Force, Ema Sumarna, in her report said that until December 17 2023, all TPS in the City of Bandung are under control.

He said, at the start of the waste emergency, waste generation reached 41,000 tons. However, with various efforts, waste generation can continue to be reduced until only 5,439 tons remain. The waste that is still stuck in the city is targeted for completion in early January 2024

"Next, the waste that must be transported is daily waste that goes to the TPS, the amount has decreased from the condition before the waste emergency period," he said.

Talking about the current situation, the City of Bandung still has a quota of 9,944 waste disposal units to the Sarimukti TPA out of the 13,000 units allocated.

"Thank God, now we can send 178 rits or around 934.5 tonnes of waste which we can transport every day. Only 400 tonnes remains for the task force's performance," he said.

Apart from that, waste management at the source continues to run optimally. Organic waste is processed using Kang Empos, RW and Subdistrict scale Magotization, as well as city scale organic waste processing facilities, so that it is not thrown into TPS.

Of the 1,300 tons of daily waste in Bandung City, 934.5 tons are sent to the Sarimukti TPA, 256.21 tons of waste are managed independently and 109.29 tons of waste is reduced at the source.

Reducing waste at this source, the 9 waste management clusters have been able to process more than 58.73 tons of waste.

The next focus, said Ema, is facing the transition period, to optimize waste reduction scenarios and stabilize the daily transportation of waste from the TPS which is disposed of to the Sarimukti TPA. (rob)**
