In decreasing traffic congestion in Greater Bandung, the Bandung City Government and West Java Province Government, besides the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), flyover, and underpass projects, also has the Light Rail Transit (LRT) project for trains' mobility.

Currently, LRT Bandung Raya is at the pre-feasibility study (FS) phase.

The Head of Communication (Dishub) of West Java, Koswara Hanafi, said that the Bandung Raya LRT was ready to go through the next phase through the central funding.

“I have proposed (it) to the Ministry of Finance for the FS phase. After that, there are other phases that we will be going through. So, it could result in documents having values that can attract investors,” said Koswara on Wednesday, 23 March 2022.

In the FS phase, there will be research into whether or not a project will be successful.

Koswara emphasized that there were seven corridors in the LRT project. Three of which would be the focus that would be fragmented into three phases.

“The first phase will focus on Babakan Siliwangi corridor to Leuwipanjang. Then, the second one starts from Leuwipanjang to Tegaluar. Lastly, the third one lengthens it to Jatinangor,” he exemplified.

For the funding, Koswara said it would be auctioned through a scheme called Government Cooperation with Business Entities (KPBU) or simply means Collaboration between the Government with Enterprises.

“The Bandung City Government informed that there was a corridor highly anticipated by SMRT Singapore. We just have to confirm it through the Mayor of Bandung City whether SMRT is ready for the total budget as to its design and operations,” he said.

As a result, the Acting Mayor of Bandung City, Yana Mulyana, stated that Babakan Siliwangi-Leuwipanjang corridor had been acquired by SMRT Singapore.

“In the last three days, I met with them for the follow up of the auction. They are ready for the budgeting, continuing as the rightful winner of the auction, and prepared with new technologies,” Yana ascertained.

Responding to the LRT project, the Head of Bappelitbang of Bandung City, Anton Sunarwibowo, said that the transportation assessments of Bandung City could not be addressed entirely by the Bandung City Government.

“We warmly welcome the support from the West Java Province Government for the LRT. Indeed, it has been a long time for the Bandung City Government who has been making a plan for the central transportation junction of Bandung City through the existing Mayor Regulation,” Anton said.

He hoped that, in the future, there would be regulations agreed with and produced by the Bandung City Government and West Java Province Government on the transportation acceleration of Bandung City, be it BRT or LRT.

“We hope there will be a regulation collaboratively produced by the Bandung City Government and West Java Province Government on Bandung's transportation. The Communication Agency of the West Java Province and the City have to work together for this socialization,” he said. (din)**
