Ropih Art House, Pioneer of Painting Sales in Braga
Braga is one of the tourist attractions in the city of Bandung. When visiting Braga, you will find many paintings for sale along the way.
Long before that, there was one art house that became a pioneer in selling paintings on Jalan Braga, namely the Ropih Art House.
The Ropih Art House is an art house founded by Bandung-based artist Abah Ropih in the 2000s.
According to Tata (45), the manager of the Ropih Art House, explained that the sale of paintings on Jalan Braga was based on the desire to create an art exhibition, but funding was constrained.
"It started with the intention to show the paintings that were made, but to show it at the exhibition at that time was constrained by funding because the exhibition required a lot of money. So the idea arose to conduct an exhibition on the street, namely on Jalan Naripan in front of the Sarinah Building," said Tata.
"Then Abah Ropih invited other artists to participate in showing and selling his work until it penetrated along Jalan Braga," he continued.
Currently there are about 10 painting traders, with the number of artists in the hundreds.
Braga was chosen as a place to sell paintings because it has historical value for artists in the city of Bandung.
"The first art performance in Bandung was also held in Braga, so Abah Ropih chose Braga to sell paintings," said Tata.
With the existence of painting sellers on Jalan Braga, more people are interested in painting. Even to attract the attention of foreign tourists, such as Malaysia, Singapore, to Europe. (Munifah/Nadine)**
