The City of Bandung and Braunschweig Expand Sister City Cooperation

For more than 60 years as a sister city, the City of Bandung and the City of Braunschweig, Germany have continued to strengthen relations. So far, sister city cooperation between the City of Bandung and the City of Braunschweig includes in the fields of economics, trade, industry and tourism.

On Friday 25 November 2022 at the Bandung City Hall, the Regional Secretary for the City of Bandung, Ema Sumarna met with the Ambassador of the German Federal Republic for Indonesia, H.E. Ina Lepel to discuss it.

"We want to renew the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in accordance with applicable regulations and the current needs of the two cities. The City of Bandung and the City of Braunschweig are preparing a Plan of Action (PoA) as an attachment to the renewal MoU," explained Ema.

Ema said that in September 2022 several matters were discussed regarding the Bandung-Braunschweig cooperation. Among them are the environmental and waste management sectors, both in the form of knowledge transfer, technology transfer and exchange of best practices.

"In the field of trade, the possibility is being explored to carry out joint events such as exhibitions, business matching, and promotion of Bandung coffee to coffee shop owners in Braunschweig City, as well as providing a Bandung Corner in Braunschweig City to display Bandung City's superior products," he explained.

Ema added, the Bandung City Government also continues to communicate with the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Hamburg about sending samples of Bandung coffee for coffee shop owners to try, especially in the working area of ​​the Indonesian Consulate General in Hamburg.

"We are trying to offer Bandung coffee. In Europe, coffee has become a power. We are trying to make the product acceptable there," he said.

Other cooperation is in the field of capacity building of Human Resources as well as promotion of culture and tourism.

"Currently, a student from the city of Braunschweig is doing an internship at the Bandung city government, to be precise at the Department of Culture and Tourism," he said.

"The student internship will be held for two months and will be completed next week," added Ema.

Meanwhile, the Ambassador of the German Federal Republic to Indonesia, H.E. Ina Lepel hopes that the ongoing cooperation can be even better. Starting from education, science, technology, culture to sports.

"I will convey progress regarding sister city cooperation between the City of Bandung and the City of Braunschweig. The hope is that this collaboration will continue and can develop more," he said. (yan)**
