50 Percent of Polling Stations in Bandung City Back to Normal

Waste management is a priority issue for the City Government (Pemkot). This is evident from the 55 polling stations that were overloaded, now as many as 25 polling stations are back to normal. One of them was at the Babakan Siliwangi TPS.

"Earlier I saw that Babakan Siliwangi is much better, the changes are very significant. I appreciate DLHK's performance, the waste has been reduced a lot because Cicabe has also started to be operational even though it is not 100 percent yet," said Acting Mayor of Bandung Ema Sumarna after inspecting the area. , Friday 12 May 2023.

Apart from focusing on decomposing waste at various TPS, the Bandung City Government is also improving the road infrastructure leading to the Cicabe Emergency TPA.

"We are continuing to improve the road paving. Not only with stone but also mixed with bamboo so that cars passing by do not skid," he explained.

With the opening of the Cicabe Emergency TPA, hundreds of tons of waste began to be processed. According to Ema, scavengers also have a role to play in reducing the amount of waste at the Cicabe Emergency TPA.

"In Cicabe also the scavengers reduce the volume of waste. The remaining organic matter will be planted or put in a hole to be burned. With a certified burning pattern and the 'best practice' is at Ciwastra Market," he explained.

He admitted that he was pushing the waste processing process in Cicabe with an incineration system like in Ciwastra. With this system, one burner unit can process 4-8 tons of waste per day.

"If 2-3 units are installed there, it means that 24-30 tons per day will be reduced. Then the rest will be done with sanitary landfills, but the lifetime will be short. Indeed, burning is the most effective as long as the temperature is 1,000 degrees Celsius," he said.

To get rid of the unpleasant odor from the Babakan Siliwangi TPS and others, citronella oil was sprinkled on the locations where the trash used to be.

Apart from inspecting the waste location in Babakan Siliwangi, Ema and her staff also visited a TPS in Padasuka Village. You can see piles of garbage piled up in that location.

"But the volume is still normal. We have gradually added it to Cicabe," he said.

In order to reduce the amount of waste that is disposed of at the TPA, Ema directed each TPS to carry out the segregation process directly.

"If possible, the community will also sort their own waste when it is brought to the TPS," he appealed.

For waste sorting for each RW, his party will start socialization and education on Sunday, May 14 2023 at 09.00 WIB at Gedebage.

"I will directly lead each SPK for communication, coordination, outreach, and education to all RWs in the city of Bandung. Hopefully, after we communicate, coordinate, and work together with RT and RW, any hard work can be completed together," he hoped.

In addition, the role of the camat is also important to educate the public so that there will be no more waste overload.

"If it's overloaded, don't force it to be disposed of at the TPS. It's better if there is sorting directly at the TPS. Magotization of organic waste and sorting inorganic waste has economic value," he said. (din)**
