One of the methods of processing waste from home campaigned by the Bandung City Environmental Service (DLH Bandung City) is home compost.

According to the Head of the Bandung City Environment Service, Dudy Prayudi, there are many methods for making home compost.

According to him, processing organic waste into compost not only can reduce most of the waste but also has economic value.

"Processing organic waste into compost can turn waste into a material with economic value. Either directly or indirectly," he said, Sunday, May 14, 2023.

Following are some of the home composting methods introduced by DLH Bandung City;

1. Biopore

Biopori is a compost method that is located in the soil. Biopori is made by using a PVC pipe with a diameter of 10 cm which is perforated into small pieces (pores) and inserted vertically into the ground as deep as 1 meter.

2. Sack Composter

This composter is suitable for those who have a lot of organic waste. Sizes range from 60-200 liters. The type of waste that is included is better than garden products such as leaves, twigs, and so on.

3. Drum Composter

The most popular and suitable for use in limited land or indoors. This composter uses a plastic drum (metal) which is perforated to get air circulation (aerobic).

4. Pot or earthenware compost

Pottery has properties that produce oxygen so that it provides better air circulation than using plastic. When the compost on the earthenware is full, it can be harvested immediately.

5. Lodong Sesa Kitchen (Loeseda)

Similar to the biopori model, this loseda method is made with perforated pipes as high as 120 cm and planted at a depth of 30-40 cm. Loseda is very popular in the city of Bandung.

6. Eco-Enzymes

The result of the fermentation of organic kitchen waste, such as fruit and vegetable waste, sugar (brown sugar, brown sugar or cane sugar), and water. The end result of Eco Enzyme is a brownish liquid with a fresh sour aroma which can be used as a house cleaner, fertilizer, insecticide and others.

7. Takakura Basket

First introduced by Toji Takakura in Surabaya. This composter uses an old laundry basket that has holes in it and is lined with used cardboard.

So, those are 7 composting methods that can be chosen according to the situation and conditions in each home. (rob)**
