'Free Shaving Pay as Much as You Can' at the Bandung City Baznas End of Year Celebration

The fingers of the barbers at Bandung City Hall seem skilled at playing with scissors which scrape off strands of their customers' hair. This booth was quite busy with people. In front of it there is a banner that says "Free shave, pay as much as you like", and a Palestinian flag is attached to it.

Onang, a middle-aged man, was one of the visitors who tried the service. After being neatly shaved and cleaning off the remaining hair, he said he was interested in joining the program carried out by the Bandung City Baznas at the Bandung City Baznas End of Year Festival, Saturday 23 December 2023.

"The proceeds from this program will be donated to Palestine. I am interested in joining the free shaving program and pay whatever you like, even though I only have IDR 5,000 in my wallet," said Onang.

For him, this program teaches people to be willing to give away whatever wealth they have.

"I want more than that, but I can only afford to pay that much," he said.

Even though he was paid generously, he admitted that the barbers' service was still optimal.

"The barber is also an expert, he is from the Garut Hair Barber Association (PPRG). If it were close, I would want to come. But because it is far, I live in Buahbatu, this is the barber shop in Cileunyi," he explained.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Bandung City Baznas, Akhmad Roziqin, said that at the end of this year's celebration there was also a distribution of zakat infaq alms (ZIS) to hundreds of beneficiaries (mustahik).

"We are holding the ZIS entrusted through Baznas on a massive scale as a form of our commitment to convey this entrustment with full trust," said Akhmad.

Including humanitarian donations for Palestine which were collected in the first stage amounting to IDR 1.7 billion and have been handed over to Baznas RI.

He said that donations would continue to be collected as long as the humanitarian problem in Palestine persisted.

"This is a manifestation of our alignment with humanity. In the wealth that God has given us, there are actually some rights of the poor," he said.

Apart from that, the Head of the People's Welfare (Kesra) Section, Momon A. Imron hopes that this activity can increase ZIS in Bandung City, so that more people can feel the benefits.

"From year to year, the zakat funds managed by the Bandung City Baznas continue to increase. Last year the funds collected amounted to IDR 29 billion. God willing, this year it will be even bigger," hoped Momon.

He added, not only collecting ZIS, but Baznas also distributed it on target. This is able to increase public trust in entrusting ZIS funds to the Bandung City Baznas.

"Baznas has helped the Bandung City Government in its efforts to improve the welfare of the community. In the future, hopefully Baznas can socialize the program to the wider community, so that many more people become muzaki and more mustahik are helped," he said.

He also advised that the distribution of ZIS must be able to improve the living standards of mustahik so that they can become muzaki.

"This means that the assistance provided does not only meet living needs. But it is sustainable and capable of being developed by the recipient," he said.

On this occasion, as many as 200 Koran teachers received social assistance, 100 children received educational assistance at elementary school level.

Then 100 educational assistance for junior high school students, 100 educational assistance for high school students, elderly people and orphan assistance.

As well as basic food assistance for 200 poor people in the city of Bandung, rutilahu, and health in the form of wheelchairs, prosthetic legs
Capital assistance and business facilities.

One of the recipients of health assistance is Asep Riana. This resident of Babakan Ciparay received assistance with a right prosthetic leg.

"I'm happy to have this prosthetic leg. Finally I can do my activities more comfortably. Now I work in the convection sector, as a tailor," admitted Asep.

Asep has lived his life with a leg condition like this since 2011 due to a traffic accident.

He hopes that in the future the Bandung City Government and Baznas can do more to help people in need. (din)**
