Bandung City Government Reconsiders PLTSa Needs

To reduce the amount of waste that accumulates in landfills (TPA), the Bandung City Government (Pemkot) is again reviewing the need for the construction of a Waste Power Plant (PLTSa).

This was conveyed by the Head of the Bandung Environment and Sanitation Service (DLHK), Dudy Prayudi at the Bandung City Hall, Wednesday 8 March 2023.

"Currently we are coordinating with the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenkomarves) commanded by Bappelitbang. Looking at the juridical, legal and other aspects in accordance with existing regulations," admitted Dudy.

It should be noted that the Bandung City Government had planned to build a PLTSa in the Gedebage area after the landslide disaster at the Leuwigajah TPA. For this reason, the Bandung City Government has collaborated with PT BRIL.

However, according to Dudy, from 2013 until now, of course, many regulations have changed. Therefore, to ensure this, his party is coordinating with the Coordinating Ministry for Marine Affairs and Fisheries.

"PT. BRIL (Bandung Raya Indah Lestari) is indeed carrying out a re-calculation. The 2013 study must be updated, for example, from a cost perspective. If the deadline will be discussed again later," he said.

He said, other strategies for handling waste while waiting for the decision of PT. BRIL includes optimizing the Kang Pisman program.

"We are still using the Sarimukti TPA because Legok Nangka cannot be used yet. We are running it with Kang Pisman. It has spread over 180 waste-free areas. If the amount has not adjusted, at least reduce it," he said.

Various other methods are also used, such as composting, magotization, biodigester, and RDF. This year, three integrated waste processing sites will be built using the same method as in Cicukang Holis, but with a larger capacity.

"In Holis, up to 10 tons of waste can be processed per day. The three locations that will be built later can accumulate up to 100 tons of waste per day," he explained.

"In fact, next year three more locations will be built, namely Pasir Impun, Jelekong, and Taman Sehati. With this effort, we can turn the garbage collection site into a waste processing site. So that at least we can reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill," he explained.

Dudy said that currently there is a textile company in Bandung that is working with the Bandung City Government to absorb this Refuse-derived fuel (RDF).

Even though the demand is large, the current production is still small. Of the 10 tons of waste that RDF processes, it only produces 3-4 tons.

"We are collaborating with the factory accompanied by BRIN. Because we want to ensure that the RDF we produce is suitable for textile factories," he said. (din)**
