Gedung Sate Bandung City was almost turned to charcoal due to the fire that occurred on Thursday, March 17, 2022 morning. Luckily, a team of volunteer firefighters (redkar) swiftly extinguished the fire.

And luckily, it's just a simulation of handling fires caused by gas cylinders.

Several simple simulations such as the use of a fire extinguisher (APAR) and sprinklers were also demonstrated in commemoration of Firefighters Day.

On this occasion, the West Java Provincial Government (West Java Provincial Government) also gave awards to the Fire Department and Disaster Management (Disdamkar PB) from six regions. The city of Bandung is one of the recipients of this award.

The Acting Mayor (Plt) of the Mayor of Bandung, Yana Mulyana said that this award could improve the performance and services of the Bandung City Disdamkar to the community.

"Hopefully it can still provide a sense of security and comfort for the community. Remember, don't go home before it goes out," said Yana.

Similar to Yana, Plt Kadisdamkar PB Bandung, Gun Gun Sumaryana hopes that this award can motivate them to produce better innovations to minimize disasters, especially fires in densely populated settlements.

"In Bandung, there are many densely populated areas. So, we innovate to empower redkar in the city of Bandung, especially dense areas to be able to minimize the impact of fires," said Gun Gun.

One of the firefighting innovations that have been running for almost two years is the resident sprinkler in the form of a kojing or compa tote. Gun Gun explained, enough with the power of the motor, the residents were able to extinguish a small fire.

"Essentially, through this innovation, the redkars can take early prevention. However, if it turns out that the fire has already occurred, we can prevent it from spreading. The innovation that we have done is considered by the provincial government to be quite optimal," he explained.

In the city of Bandung, I am Gun Gun, there are already 10,000 redkars. This number shows the high participation and concern of Bandung residents to prevent fires in densely populated settlements.

However, according to Gun Gun, in relation to the Decree of the Minister of Home Affairs Number 364.1-306 of 2020 concerning Guidelines for the Guidance of REDKAR, these volunteers need to be accommodated more seriously in the future.

"Because there is indeed a regulation from the minister of home affairs, we will try to accommodate those related to these volunteers. For example, with an SK (Decree) from the mayor to appoint anyone who becomes a volunteer in the city of Bandung," he said.

As for the management, Gun Gun said, the selection of members must be recruited on condition that they have a good understanding of first aid for fires.

"It is possible that we will facilitate the Redkar members by increasing their knowledge and skills related to fire prevention and disaster management," he said. (din)*
