Young people in Bandung City are known for their high creativity. Facility and infrastructural constraints never limit their work.

To accommodate it, the Bandung City Government provides room for young people to work. It is named Gelanggang Generasi Muda (GGM) and located in Merdeka St.

“On behalf of the Bandung City Government, I appreciate the existence of this youth building. GGM gives birth to many figures in Bandung, its role is outstanding not only in Bandung City, but on the National, even International level,” said the Acting Mayor of Bandung City, Yana Mulyana, on the inauguration of GGM on Merdeka St., Wednesday, 23 March 2022.

Yana stated that young people’s capability in Bandung City was enormous. Thus, it requires room for generating ideas or notions that help develop the government.

“The spirit of the predecessors keeps encouraging young people of Bandung because we understand their energy is tremendous,” he said.

He hoped that the building to be used for young people’s activity and movement centre.

“Hopefully, (it) could act as the centre of young people’s movements. It can be used together by young people of Bandung City,” he emphasized.

The building was a history of Bandung City during Otje Djundjunan’s term. So, Yana suggested the auditorium of GGM to be named Otje Djundjunan. It was to honour him.

“I propose (it) because it was an initiation of the deceased Otje Djundjunan. A form of honour for building this,” he said.

As the government, Yana said that it had a responsibility for providing and preparing people’s needs, including facilities and infrastructures.

Therefore, the government gives room for young people to work. It is similar with the fact that almost every sub-district has a Youth Space.

For the better, the Bandung City Government provides GGM as a recreational space and for exchanging ideas and work to utilize their potentials.

“Currently, we have renovated and revitalized GGM Bandung,” he said.

However, Yana reminded that the building was a public facility that could be used by people.

Therefore, he hoped that it must be preserved well so it could be used in a long time.

“Certainly, this building is managed by Dispora of Bandung City, however, young people must still be involved in its perseverance,” he said.

Yana then warmly welcome the desire to make GGM as Youth Collaboration Centre KNPI.

“KNPI can create programs that can accommodate various potentials of young people of Bandung City,” he said.

Additionally, the Head of Youth and Sports Agency of Bandung City, Edi Marwoto, emphasized that the building was to provide proper facilities and infrastructures for youth activities and sports.

“It is to improve public service, particularly in youth and sports to produce young people who are outstanding, skilled, competitive, and independent,” he said.

He added that GGM Dispora of Bandung City had an integrated program with good system to acquire the intended output, resulting in contributions for the youth development in Bandung City through GGM Rancage program.

“This program focuses on training young people and sports in Bandung City that have a measured output parameter,” he emphasized.

As the facility and youth activity and sports manager in GGM Rancage is:

1. GGM Sport and Fighting Club. It covers martial arts, archery, table tennis, and e-sport.

2. GGM Art and Performance. It covers dance arts, fine arts, drama and theatre.

3. GGM Multimedia School. It covers broadcasting, content creator, talent and event management.

4. GGM Music Academy. It covers 7 integrated musical instruments.

5. GGM Life Skill Program. It covers public speaking, soft skill training, spiritual training and motivation.

In the same place, the senior and founder of GGM, Popong Otje Djundjunan, hoped that it could be used as intended.

“This building’s functions are clear. They are based on Ipoleksosbudhankam and religions (Ideology, politics, economics, social, cultures, security),” he exemplified.

On the first floor, it has a parking space for cars and motorcycles. The second floor consists of the office and main auditorium. The third floor covers 6 classes and 7 rooms. The fourth floor consists of the commercial facility: pondok pemuda. (yan)**
