The head of the Sukajadi Sub-district FDKM, Ahmad Erawan, said that this program was initiated after seeing the survey results on July 1, 2022. The census results showed that out of 1,321 people in Sukajadi, 210 people or 15.90 percent could not read the Koran.

"We help guide them from the stage of being unable to read to being able to read, be fluent, and understand the meaning. So that it is hoped that the community can implement the good values contained in the Koran in everyday life," said Erawan at the Declaration of Free Illiteracy of the Koran, Wednesday , August 17, 2022.

At the initial stage, the main target is people who are in 5 RT of 5 sub-districts in Sukajadi District with children aged 7 years and over and the elderly.

The five pilot areas that were free of Quran illiteracy in Sukajadi were RT 03 RW 02 Sukagalih Village, RT 06 RW 07 Pasteur Village, and RT 05 RW 03 Sukabungah Village.

While the other two areas are RT 01 RW 01 Sukawarna Village and RT 08 RW 11 Cipedes Village.

"Since March, training for volunteers has been carried out. There are various methods used in reading the Koran in this program that are adjusted to age and ability," he explained.

The methods used in this program are the dirosa method (adults sharpened), the tilawati method (according to the rules), the iqro method (introduction of hijaiyah letters), the bagdadi method (spelling), and the bashohi method (with the rhythm of bayati, shoba, hijaz).

Erawan hopes that with this program the mosque can be used as a center for worship, education, muamalah, and social activities for the community.

"Hopefully this program can be carried out in a structured, systematic, and massive manner so that we can become the best people who the Prophet said are those who read and teach the Koran," he said.

The Head of Sukajadi Sub-district, Inci Pier, also conveyed the same thing. According to him, one of the backgrounds of this program was formed based on the data which states that only 65 percent of the people in Indonesia can recite the Koran.

He explained that the approach taken was divided into two ways. First, it directly touches the community. Second, through online every Sunday with the community and Indonesia Koran.

"Alhamdulillah, the 5 pilot RTs are now free from illiteracy in the Koran. Today is an opportunity for us to practice goodness," admitted Inci.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Bandung City DPRD, Tedy Rusmawan said, this activity is something that is highly glorified by God and is in line with the vision of the City of Bandung.

"We hope that this declaration activity will become a snowball in the city of Bandung and can inspire other regions," said Tedy.

He also hopes that collaboration and synergy must be carried out from all parties to support this activity. Moreover, it is not easy for the elderly to start learning to read the Koran.

"Even so, their enthusiasm really inspires people who want to learn to read the Koran. Therefore we need to support together as Allah SWT commands in Surah Al Maidah verse 2: Work together in piety," he added. (din)**
